Diane Feinstein, senator for Silicon Valley and other locations in CA, attempted to foist more police state-ism on the American public in the form of a bill which sought to force a back door to be put into all encryption systems used in the US.

This proposal was kicked out by the US Senate. They appear to recognise the stupidity of backdooring encryption, and have had enough of the wrath of tech companies, who are sick to death of regulations and initiatives to force them to engage in mass surveillance of their customers and others. Not to mind the loss of business to European and Asian companies, because many people no longer trust US technology platforms.
