Opel Omega CD100 dilemma

My father has one of the last two Opel Omega CD100s left in the country. Only 100 were ever sold in the respective countries where the car was marketed. It is spec'd up completely.

He is contemplating scrapping it, but is at pains to see it go in the crusher.

Mechanically it is pretty sound as it has well cared for in terms of servicing (it has the passenger door strap gone, and the there is a minor oil leak from the rear of the engine) but the bodywork has gone to pot. A lot of rust on doors and panels, quite a few dings and scrapes too.

That said, it got it's NCT last week, so nothing structural.

Here are pictures from around 10 years ago:

Does anyone think it is worthwhile to try and sell given its rarity? It's got around 170k miles, and has tax and NCT on it.

Looked very nice 10 years ago at least.

Of course he should put it up.
You never know if someone may be interested until you have tried.

That car will sell no bother, you're sitting on a gold mine right there! You could easily get a queue of lads looking to buy that car so they can diff it at one of those king of the cone events!

He should get €1500 for it easily. Put it up on donedeal for €2500 and see if anyone bites but be prepared for a lot of arseholes looking to swap their lowered passat's and other heaps for it.

Be very specific in the ad that messages won't be replied to. No swaps, straight cash, no cash no test drive and proof of insurance required for test drive as the car will only be of interest to a very specific market where the average age is 21 which incidentally will also be the average iQ of the potential buyers.

Those messages are just annoying and could deter people. It's an Opel Omega, not an M5 or something that people would just want a spin in. Put up a good honest ad and see what happens. Request proof of insurance on the phone when someone agrees to view.

OK, thanks for the feedback. He'll probably price to sell, can't see it making €1500 though. I'd say there is €1500 of bodywork to make it presentable. Unfortunate thing is that he will not want to face dealing with the planks out there (he's 73), so he may still take the easy way out.

Stick it on adverts.ie, get price etc sorted before someone gets to drive it.

Put it up on the 3 main Opel sites on Facebook.

    Blitzandgriffin
    Opel Vauxhall club Ireland
    Total Opel

Somebody on there will have or know of somebody at least. There be genuine enough lads on there although I can't guarantee an odd chancer unfortunately.

With those faults don't think it will make more than a grand.

Up to date pics would be needed though for full openness.

It's got a manual gearbox which might put people off. A car of that size should be an auto, and all the wood and leather won't make up for that.

Weld the diff and chop the springs.... She'd be a fair yoke for doin rings laaaaad....

All joking aside, with chronic rust it's not going to be roadworthy for long, so I wouldn't be holding out much hope for 4 figures

Its only going to make about 80 quid in the breakers so a grand would be a hefty bonus.

Please don't scrap it or sell it to drifters....there should be plenty of genunine enthusiasts that will buy it from you. I would be interested but I could only afford scrap value .....

I agree. Place an advert on TotalOpel.com and / or Opel Vauxhall Club Ireland. Give somebody a chance to save it! :)

nice rare motor now .. i have tons of old stock new gm parts and body repair panels for this omega and other opels .

which i wouldnt be asking a lot for if any body wanted the parts to repair her ..

definatly put an ad up on any of the above mentioned sites ,,i have too many opel projects here or id take it ..

id say value of her would be roughly 800/1000 euro with the test on her ..
if i could see her id tell you what it needed and i might know a man in cork that would take that also ..

Thanks everyone - I'll pass on all that good advice. It might be a while before he makes a decision, but I think selling to an enthusiast would be a brilliant outcome.

I had 2 Opel Rekords myself - the latter one being an '86 plastic bumper model. It was in very good knick when I sold it for £200 pounds, back in the late 90s. I'd love to have it now...along with the Cortina Mk 4 2.0S I scrapped and the Mk2 Escort RS1600 I passed on, and, and...the mint E30 316 I traded in, which went in the crusher shortly after. I almost cry at that one.

It's nice to know that some decent cars are saved.
