I don't want to work -- is SWA the correct allowance to apply for?

Due to various reasons I don't want to work at present, is the aforementioned allowance the correct one to apply for?

Will I encounter any problems applying for said allowance as an Irish national?

    Many thanks,

    FS

    Conditions
You will normally qualify for Supplementary Welfare Allowance if you satisfy the following conditions:
You are living in the State.
    You satisfy the means test.
You have applied for any other benefit or allowance you may be entitled to.
You satisfy the habitual residence test, except for an Exceptional Needs Payment. EU/EEA workers and Swiss nationals working here will satisfy the habitual residence condition. However, people from the EU/EEA or Switzerland who move to Ireland in search of employment are subject to the habitual residence test in the normal way while looking for work.
You have registered for work with your local Employment Services Office/Intreo office if you are of working age.....http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/supplementary_welfare_allow.html

How many people DO feel like working?

If we all stopped, what would happen to the scroungers then eh?

I'm not interested in this kind of reply tbh.

So, is it possible for me to apply for SWA with no intention of working? Or do I have to lie and apply for JSA?

Mightn't be a reply that interests you, but it's a valid point.

If you're fit and healthy and over the age of 18, they will expect you to apply for JSA. You might be able to skip over this if you are not in good health but I imagine this lines you up for disability payment instead which I believe is another payment, not SWA?

That post seems to suggest that swa is only payable to those who are applying for another benefit, can someone confirm is this the case?

I would prefer not to lie and have to apply for JSA as I will not be looking for work;however, if I have to, I will lie.

You will be asked to prove on a regular basis that you are looking for work or you will lose money.

To answer your question, there is no social welfare payment for a person who just decides they don't feel like working.

Okay, it looks like I'll be pretending to be a "Jobseeker" then.

Hey, it's an extra 2€ a week, money the state could have saved. Oh well..

And thank f*ck there isn't. Could you imagine?

We obviously don't know your situation, nor your actual reasons for asking this.

I'd go as far as suggesting seeking medical assistance with any issues you're currently experiencing. Physically or psychologically.

    No its not.
You only apply for SWA if you have applied for another SW payment and you are waiting for your claim to be processed and you need financial assistance while waiting.
So if you aren't ill and waiting for a payment or jobseeking and waiting for a payment or caring for someone and waiting for a payment or retired and over 66 and waiting for a payment then you are not entitled to SWA.

In order to apply for JSA you will have to tell them where you have been looking for work and give them proof of same. You will be required to attend regularly at your local SW office to discuss your jobsearching.
If you cannot apply for JSA because of personal circumstances, you need to attend your local CWO clinic and discuss your situation with him or her.

  • Site Banned Posts: 32 FiannaSuccess

To apply for JSA they will ask you where you have been looking for work and to give them proof, and they will bring you in to meeting to discuss your job searching and your CV etc.

Fine, I'll be applying for CEO positions at the likes of Google and facebook.

Got to aim high and all that.

I don't think you'll find CEO job vacancies on any websites, think they're usually head hunted positions or internal promotions.

No, I don't know your circumstances, but I am not judging you for not wanting to work; I am judging you for trolling- what, if anything, has that got to do with your personal circumstances?

The dole office mightn't take you seriously, try aiming a bit lower.

    That doesn't work.
Your jobsearching needs to match your qualifications.
You do realise they will require your educational or trade qualifications?
