    Hi all,

    Someone here may be able to help me....

    Myself and my OH are going travelling to South America this Summer - taking in approx 5 countries in the trip for 2.5 months. Leaving from Dublin, and returning from Dublin...

    Does anyone know if we need to get single, multi-trip or backpackers travel insurance? Would our holiday be considered a single trip, or because of the various countries and flights would it need multi? Or backpackers?!?!

    I'd be greatly obliged if anyone could shed some light!

    single trip insurance is exactly what it says on the tin - a single trip - departure to and from same country

    multi trip would be like an annual policy covering you for multi trips within a calendar period

    backpackers - I can't advise

    You are probably looking for backpackers insurance then. The policy will have certain limits but you should have the option to pay an extra premium to cover an expensive camera etc.

    I have used InsureandGo for backpacker insurance several times and was always satisfied with them. I needed an emergency hospital stay one time shortly into a 18 day excursion and they both covered all the medical costs, a flight out of the region I was in and also refunded most of the value of the excursion I missed out on once I provided all receipts etc.
