Named driver experience converted to NCB

    Hi all,

I have 7 years named driver experience.

Last year was the first time I went out on my own and got a large discount for the named driver experience.

I got my renewal quote this week along with my first NCB which has 4 years awarded to me.

I assumed this was a mistake so rang my insurance company and got put through to a supervisor, he informed me that this is correct that insurers convert your named driver experience into a NCB.

They told that the 4 year NCB is correct.

This will obviously give me a nice discount on my policy.

I just feel like it's untruthful or something.

Did anyone ever hear of this type of conversion ?

Yes. I had three years named drivers exp and after I went out on my own, they gave me 4 years full NCB on my cert the next year. Not all insurers accept named driving experience for a discount.

    Be happy!

Happened to 2 people I know. One got 4 years named driver experience converted to 4 years NCB and the other got 1 years named driver experience converted to 1 years NCB,

I'm surprised you rang them up. I wouldn't have!

So it does seem to me a fairly standard procedure that I've never heard of.

Should I inform my new company of how I got the 4 years or should just give them the cert.

The issuer of the NCB said it's valid and correct.

Would the new company have a leg to stand on if I had to claim ?

The cert is the cert. They usually have a ref number that the new insurer can check to see if genuine as part of verifying a new policy.

It is a genuine cert and I've queried it with the issuer.

I'm probably gonna go ahead and use it with my new policy.

This feels a bit off but it'll probably be harder to use my 1 year NCB with my cert that implies I have 5 years.

I started off my driving as a named driver and when I went out on my own I got my then 5 years named driving experience transferred to a NCB but it was not the full 5 years think I got three but not sure. Have full NCB now though. it seems a common enough practice but can vary from company to company

Who are you with? I had a company car for ten years and was named on my wife's aswell. Last year The only company I could find willing to take on the named experience was 25plus.ie my renewal was this week and the NCB they sent out had 1 year on it but offered 52.5% I rang at round but no one could beat it as they said I had my own NCBfir a year so named experience means nothing

    Thanks.

It's look like they might give 1 years NCB for every 2 years of named driver experience.

Did you tell your insurance company how you got the NCB ?

Given it's a material fact of the policy not querying it at the time of taking out the policy could prove financially ruinous should you find yourself in the need to make a claim and discover your policy is void.

    I don't agree

Yes I have been truthful with all insurance companies. From my experience companies are interested in years claim free driving, years without an accident or claim by you or against you, any charges or charges pending (for anything not just traffic offences).

You don't have to agree, it's a legal and contractual fact.

How so? Can you give me any scenario in which, having given all my correct details and received my policy which included a 4 year NCB discount, the policy is void in the event of a claim?
