It's the same 1.6 HDi/TDCi engine made by Peugeot/Citroen found in the likes of the Ford Focus too which doesn't have a great reputation for reliability back then. Mazda3 is also used the Ford Focus platform.

How about the Renault Fluence 1.5 DCI (2009-2010)?

There supposed to be a good engine no??

It is a good engine, reliable and frugal. We've had three with no issues at all.

Problems about crankshaft lubrication are not uncommon with it...

The fluence is a very good car IMO.

    Thanks Colm

Would you be including the 2009-2011 1.6 diesels in this statement?

Has anyone any other experience with these cars?

The Fluence uses alot of Megane parts, it's built in the far East and sold there as a Samsung. The Fluence was only ever sold in Europe with the 1.5 DCi diesel engine. That engine is found in various Renaults and Nissans.

Far as I know, the fluence was built in Turkey (if that makes any odds, as was the Corolla)

Your right. The Ozies get theirs from South Korea.
