Sorry for another infuriating sentence thread, but this really annoyed me:
An Italian man who beat his ex-girlfriend and tore out her hair in front of their child has been given a suspended sentence after a judge said he would have a difficult time in prison due to his lack of English.

What about the "difficult time" his ex-girlfriend was having as her asshole ex-boyfriend was pulling her hair from her head!

No surprise really, judges don't like locking people up in this country. Was reading another story today about a teenager who took a hammer to another lads skull multiple times over €50, he's not doing any time either.

Anyone know the car valet place he works at, so I will never give him my custom?

If he ordered a bag of fresh garlic from outside the EU and was caught he would have done more time.

    Unlikely.

If he committed a multi million euro tax scam importing garlic as apples or vice versa, he'd do time. And rightly so.

The legal profession really have a lot to answer for when it comes to lack of justice in ireland,

How is this type of crap sentencing going to wash with the munister and commissioners new zero tolerance on drug dealing on the streets initiative?

Outdated legislation here allows Foreign nationals to get more leniency under mitigating circumstances. This was one thing in the early 90s but the number of foreign nationals here would be over 20% of the population now and rising, it should be removed. Heres another even worse one
Mr Sammon asked the court to take into account his client's status as a foreign national which may make incarceration more difficult due to cultural and linguistic issues.Judge Murphy accepted his status as a foreign national must be taken into account in sentencing but noted that he had been in Ireland for upwards of 14 years and as he was a taxi driver he must have a level of linguistic ability.

And from todays Indo an 18yr old with 130 previous convictions, and a 42 year old mother of two (I bet they're little darlings) with 313 convictions ~ THREE HUNDRED & THIRTEEN

How in the name of sweet baby Jesus can you rack up that many convictions in one life time!.

There was another story during the week, from Limerick. A guy held up a Paddy Powers bookies on William St, despite having 198 previous convictions the judge told him he'd give him "one final chance to sort himself out" ~ and let him off with probation lol

How about he uses that jailtime to learn the language of the nation he is residing in, just a thought like...

    Irish I mean :P

Did the judge come to that conclusion in case he can't say "please don't rape me".
Ridiculous reason not to lock him up!

there untouchable - live in completely different world to most of us - a woman attacked a guard with blood filled syringe and get no extra jail , despite having over 300 convictions , not that seams to matter in Ireland , attacking anyone with a loaded syringe is a horrible crime. The legal profession do not live in areas inhabited by this lovely woman, well secure in there loaded mansions.

Same Judge by all accounts. His penchant is to let the scumbags spend the night in custody whilst he considers the verdict he's gonna hand down.

Then he promptly lets them out the next day with a fine!
