Am I being taxed too much?

Long time tax lover, first time poster.

So I started a new job last week. The pay is weekly at €450 per week.

I just looked at my first payslip, and my nett pay is €338.

I'm being deducted €58 in "tax", €18 in "PRSI EE", and €36 in USC.

Is this correct, or am I being emergency taxed or something? Kind of hoped I'd have more than €338 to show at the end of a week, like.

Any help would be mucho appreciated!

Ring Revenue and they will sort it out for you straight away. You may be on emergency tax but they will be able to sort you out and will inform your employer within 48 hours of your correct tax credits. I am not sure but check out the amount of usc, that looks a little bit high. Good luck!

does that mean that 8% of my wages are being emergency taxed? should i actually be getting €414 a week after deductions?

No it means you are being charged 8% USC. Which happens to be the USC that your employer charges you when you start employment until they have a tax cert.

If you're single you nett pay each week based on your wage should be about €385 give or take a few Euro.

ah okay, thanks for that. how do i go about getting them a tax cert? or is it revenue that does that?

You ring revenue, tell them your PPS number is x and your employers registration number is y and you want your tax credits, SRCOP and USCCOP allocated to your employment.
