    Hi

Thinking of buying the new model Mazda 6 2.2 diesel 50k miles.
Has/does anyone own one, what are the good and bad points?
Is there anything I should be looking out for?
Anything likely to go wrong with the car, for instance the diesel particulate filter (or DPF) can go Im told if not driving long distances every week, which could cost a thousand euros to fix each time.

All modern diesels will have DPF issues if only driven around the city, in these cases a petrol/hybrid/electric car is more suitable.

Ive never owned a diesel car before but everything seems so much cheaper with them tax, fuel, insurance etc. My commute to work is not long maybe 15/20 minutes but would drive long distances most weekends is this enough to avoid the issues with the DPF filter?

The old model really didn't like sitting in traffic, oil levels would rise, would run a lot rougher. The new model is apparently not without some issues either. To be honest on most diesels your usage would probably be fine but on a diesel Mazda I'd be very slow to trust one.

Thats unfortunate, really like the car, have you examples/reasons on why not to trust the Mazda diesel?

Basing it on my experience of the last one (completely different engine mind!) I would be very slow to buy one used. I had what I could class pretty serious issues at under 70k km. If you do a search there was a post by R.0.R about the new model ones they have on their fleet not exactly being trouble free either. That post is probably the best source as there are a greater number than just one persons experience.
