No hot water, no heating.

    Hi All,

My oil burner is not supplying hot water to the house . I checked the heating flow pipe out the top of the burner and it's good and hot up to the grundfos alpha+ circulation pump but cold on the house side of the pump.
The shutoff valves in the house for heating and hot water are working as selected by the assosiated thermostats in their respective zones.
I believe the burner is working as it should because the outlet pipe is very hot.
My question is what tells the hot water circulating pump to turn on ?
The pump is on a wall switch and by turning on and off the switch I can feel the pump is getting current but seems to be stuck as I can feel a vibration off it with the switch on but nothing with the switch off.
    Is the pump probably dead?
    Is it an expensive item?
    Can they be repaired ?

    Thanks for reading.

The pump may be just sticking - you can unscrew the vent cap on the end of the pump body to get access to the end of the shaft (A small dribble of water will leak out) With the power off use a small screwdriver to check that the shaft turns freely. If it is turning smoothly with no tight spots then there is an electrical fault in the pump.

Took off vent cap , rotated shaft a few times freely , reassembled , system now functioning normally. For how long? Should I order a pump?

One of the pipe shut off valves on the burner side of the pump is weeping now since I closed and opened it , does a little weep matter?

Pressurised water system , gauge for system pressure shows 3/4 bar but red needle set to two. Adjusting pressure regulator turns crew does nothing , how can I increase the system pressure?

There is a red pressure vessel in line for the pressurised system I presume and it was reading 4 psi I upped to 18psi , is that ok ?

18psi is fine. Approx 1.4bar so you're grand. The isolator valve leak, just monitor. If very slight, it could likely seal itself in time.
