Going up to Belfast on Saturday just for the day doing the black cab tour with me mates, just wondering for anyone who lives or visits often what would be a good amount of cash to survive on for the day? wont be doing anything massive just the tour and probably a bit to eat and a few pints! sound.

Never took a black cab tour myself but think they're in the neighbourhood of 40-60 pounds? Food and drink is a bit cheaper than Dublin, so just depends on how many pints is a few, but another 25 pounds or so should cover you grand. You can use your ATM card to withdraw money up there so don't worry too much about it.

The Duke of York is a great pub, the whole Cathedral quarter is well worth a wander (it's the area around the University of Ulster). The Crown Liquor Saloon is also well worth a look.

If you fancy a museum I recommend the Crumlin Road Gaol, but you may want to book it.

Great city, I lived there for a year and loved it. Quiet enough in the evenings mind :)

    Cheers pal :)

I've done the black cab tour before I'd recommend it any day, its my 2 Croatian mates that are fascinated by the whole thing that are dying to do it!

The company got back to me there and quoted 50 quid for 3 people which is a great deal, will look into the museum!

I found £10 in my kitchen the other day but knew there was something not quite right about it. I looked again and realised that it was Northern Ireland money. I haven't been there for 7 years so I don't know where it appeared from...

Great city and very easy to get around. Food and drink a lot cheaper than Dublin (less choice though, fine of you like Harp but if you dont...).

£40-£50 will see you right for a decent meal and a few scoops.

Is W5 that good though? I would not recommend it (unless you had kids).

They can be used however the shops can refuse to accept them.

    It's not.

A point worth noting is that you can't hail taxis on the street, so make sure you have some numbers saved in your phone.

There's a rank by Belfast Central train station if needed!

seems this changed only today for limited times. but seems black cabs can be.

Current laws only allow public hire taxis, commonly known as black taxis, to be hailed on streets in the city.
All other taxis must be booked.
But from 31 May, that will change between midnight on Friday and Saturday nights until 06:00 the next morning.
All taxis will be able to stop for passengers who have waved them down.
