Talking to a friend in Rosslare this evening, they said this morning a biplane flew over Rosslare being shadowed what looked like a light aircraft flying north westwards. Anyone know what that was all about? They said they were fairly close together

It would be the boeing stearman bi-plane, I see it over my town occasionally, it always has a chase plane

    Who what why when?

They were moving quite fast and relatively low.

    Who do they belong to?

    Why a "chase" plane?

Where do they fly out of?

    Cheers

He said it looked like a Cessna of some sort alright, is this owned by Cathal Ryan (is he of the Tony Ryan clan)?

Cathal Ryan is deceased. He was the former owner of the Boeing Stearman G-THEA. It is now privately owned. It is no longer kept at Weston but at a private estate.

I suspect the "biplane" that the op is referring to is the DH Rapide owned by Aer Lingus and it was most likely being escorted by the DH Chipmunks of the Irish Historic Flight based in Ballyboy airfield.

Who is their fuel supplier? What's the maintenance history of these aircraft?

And where would the biplane be flying in from then on May 30th?

    It's based in Dublin Airport.

Then what was the other plane flying alongside it?

if it was the Iolar, then it was probably being accompanied by one of three Chipmunks, in Air Corps colours, which are now part of the Irish Historic Flight, a joint venture between the IAA, the Air Corps, Aer Lingus and other donors. The Iolar is owned by Aer Lingus and is normally kept in Dublin Airport but has recently been out and about attending various airshows and fly-ins. It will be at Athboy Fly-In this weekend, for a charity event.

Taking photos and possibly acting as transport. The Iolar doesnt have much room inside. (6 leather seats)

I (presumably) saw the Iolar passing Lucan one day. I wasn't sure what it was, I thought it was a De Havilland Rapide, I'd only seen one in Manchester Transport Museum a while back. Turns out my guess wasn't too far off!
