Strange Huawei Problem

I got two Huawei Y635's for an elderly couple. I am pleasantly surprised by the phone but there is a strange quirk.

If I install an app from the play store, for example to answer the phone when it is put to the ear, the app works for a few calls but then it reverts back to stock. I have tried changing the defaults but the only other option, under phone, is Skype.

The same happens if I add a clock widget. It's ok for a while but then starts losing time or stops.

Freeze the default app if you can.

I use Nova launcher and it still goes back to Huawei launcher, so I froze the launcher.
