My first thought is Eucalyptus but the forn doesn't seem quite right.

Then again there are lots of Eucalyptus.

Where in the country does it grow as only some Eucalypti can tolerate
    colder temperatures

It is in cork. South facing slope and very sheltered. Also there is 2 main trunks at ground level.

    Reckon it's this

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_globulus

Cork would be a great place for a Eucalyptus to grow

Its dam difficult to ID from pictures alright but a lovely puzzle OP :D, bright green twigs for a year or two, willow like leaves, alternative, as mentioned upright crown shape is weird too.

I had a look at the ID for Eucalyptus globulus and a particular feature of the leaves is a sickle shape and the older twig bark looks a little different too:

I had a look at Podocarpus leaves and twigs, and came up with this one being very close: Podocarpus salignus, but the difference to my eye between the OP photo and this example is the leaves persist on the older twigs. The older twigs arnt quite the same shade as the OP photo either.

Bit closer on older twig detail in this photo of Podocarpus salignus seems more like the OP's photo

I think the tree crown shape is odd possibly due to the tree being pollarded in the past, about half way up or so, giving the crown a more upright look from the pollard point.

I think old tree has cracked it. There is no aroma of note from the tree. I'll try crushing the leaves but reall doubt it is eucalyptus now. So podocarpus it is
