    1.8 4 cylinder had a 20v version.

    20vt was 1.8 150bhp.

Every days a school day. I had only known of the V5 2.3 from around that time. Didn't realise the Octavia came with the 1.8. I assume then it's an import or some sort of demo car?
    Interesting find.

That one is indeed a 1.8 turbo SLX. Not a uk import.

Only thing that looks a bit special or indeed specced up is the leather steering wheel and the center arm rest.

I'm assuming this was dropped before the VRS came along. I'd never seen one before.

I had that engine in a 1999 Seat Toledo, very nice it was too.

Keep in mind, basic pre facelift Octavias were very basic, no electric windows etc.

That car is a bargain. Someone buy it please.

Not something I've ever come across or seen before.

    IIRC the 20V was a 2.3 V5 engine not a 1.8?

I'm assuming this is just a standard 120bhp 1.8 with a new badge stuck on or am I missing something?

it had the same 1.8 20v turbo with 150bhp from the factory same as tho mk4 golf gti so im guessing this is confusing the seller., there was no such thing as an octavia gti:D

saw that ad myself yesterday and thought it would make a nice cheap sleeper project for someone here:cool:

    Just a word of warning?

One owner, up till a few weeks ago.
To be fair, probably traded into a garage or something, but still, seller is flipping it.

Full year NCT, low mileage and relatively reliable engine I presume? Can't go wrong for that money. Hell, I'm tempted myself for some turbo sleeper fun!

These will remap to around 185bhp with no other mods....

That's cheap! Proper sleeper there. Not too many around at all. As said before the 20v is the 1.8t seen in the golf/a3/s3/Leon etc. Being an early car it'll only have a ko3 not a ko3s but the latter bolts straight on and is good for 220 bhp with minor mods( intake/ exhaust work) and a map. That'll surprise a fair few at auto Heroes.

    how is that a Classic?

Itll also have the older head hopefully which flows much better than the later ones.

Exhaust/intercooler/airbox required to hit the 220 mark.

Had one in a 97 Passat 1.8T import. Bloody great car/engine combo. Loved it.

Normally that ads a zero to the price.

Its a classic because it is 16 years old, and not many of the SLX 1.8Turbo were sold here so its also rare. A car does not have to be a Ferrari or a Porsche to become a classic. There was plenty off SLX Octavia,s sold here but they mostly had the 1.6 petrol engine and were a good car too the parents had two of them a 00 in SLX spec and then a revamped 02 one.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
