    Hi folks!

I really, really need some help here. I want to kick the smokes, but I know absolutely nothing about vaping, beyond the few sneaky pulls I'd have on one of those pen e-cig thingies when I had to get on a plane. Recently though I was out with a pal who was over from the States, and she had one of these giant yokes that I tried and absolutely loved. It was this one:

    14629297770.jpg

So I just bought one and while I'm excited about it, I'm also a little wary because I have no idea what I'm doing. How many of those coils do I need? Should I buy some now as replacements? What's the story with maintenance? I've googled a lot of this already, but to be honest I find it really confusing and there don't seem to be any instructions available when it comes to cleaning the Dripbox. Is cleaning and maintenance all the same across different brands? Should I get an atomizer?

And juices? I'm a 20+ JPB a day girl. I'd like a tobacco flavour, but what strength? I was thinking of going middle of the road and seeing what that's like. Any recommendations on juices? I don't mind spending a little extra on that as I'm trying to get off the smokes completely and it's worth any price.

I'm sorry for all of the questions, I am really clueless. Thanks in advance for any help or advice anyone can provide!

try searching for the device on Youtube - plenty of explanations and demos available

14mg or 16mg is a standard strength juice to start with for getting off the stinkies. I did it from 16mg 3 years ago and gradually worked my way down to 2mg - happy out now!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum Jaxxy,

I started vaping just over a week ago and honestly it's been great. That device you bought is bound to be a great all in one kit, It's kangertech and a quick look over on google tells me that it's a great mod(bottom part) and tank(top part where the liquid goes.)

HOWEVER, I think that it's a bit advanced for a new vapor and here are the reasons.

    Too technical for new vapor,
    Too complicated with VV/VW/TC
AFAIK the Tank is a rebuildable and you really don't want that for your first kit.

Don't despair however as you should be able to vape on it, you will just need to do some research. I made the exact same mistake and purchased a complicated enough device as my first. BUT it was a good mistake as I quickly picked up the terminology and the knowledge to be able to vape SAFELY and comfortably.

My advice would be get yourself an Joyetech eGo AIO(if you have the funds). Perfect first device and cheap too. In a week you will be up to speed enough to be able to tackle the Kangertech BEAST.

Any questions, Please feel free to PM me and I will help you along.

    Welcome and happy vaping.

P.S. This is your device review.

Hi, that set up is quite advanced and I would recommend something simpler for your first, but since you have it now there's no reason you can't learn how it works. Youtube is a great resource. It uses 18650 batteries that are replaceable, I would recommend getting a good charging dock for these, something like nitecore and learning about battery safety. It does allow Temperature Control, while I feel this is advanced and wouldn't advise at this stage, a bit of research into it and you'll be flying, just be careful you're using the correct coils for the correct setting. Always prime coils, adding a few drops of liquid to soak the cotton first, a good idea to get extra coils too. As for liquids, Republic of vape have a john player blue type flavour as far as I know, you may like it. Don't panic, I know there's a lot of things to consider, but it's mainly around safety and will allow you to enjoy the mod at its best

Cheers dball! I did find a build walkthrough for a similar model from the same manufacturer that I should be able to follow. Hopefully. :D

I think I'll start with the 16mg and go from there then. Can you recall what brand/type of juice you used in the beginning? Three years off the smokes is absolutely brilliant, fair play, I'd be delighted if I got three months!

Thanks so much AthAnRi! Yeah I have to admit, it is kind of intimidating. I'm watching review videos for it and while everyone seems to love this one, they're speaking a different language as far as I'm concerned. I'm googling every thirty seconds. I'll get there in the end I'm sure but I definitely jumped in and bought it way too soon. I just got carried away when I took a hit off my friend's Dripbox, as it really impressed me, and I thought that finally I could effectively substitute the smokes for something that might actually work for me.

I'll look into the Joyetech, which seem smaller and a little more manageable for a first timer. Thanks again!

Do NOT use 16mg in that device. You will be on the floor, dizzy and nauseous from nicotine overload. 3mg or 6mg for that. Use stronger in other smaller devices.

Might be worth asking your friend what strength was in it when you tried it.

The reason to use less mg strength in this device is, it produces a lot more vapour, by heating more juice than basic starter devices. More vapour volume is more nicotine going into your system.

guys, he has already bought this item.

I think that these are not so difficult to use.

OP when using devices like these the nicotine level need not be as high as they produce so much vapour.

6mg nicotine for a device like you have is probably enough.

if you can get stainless steel coils for you tank I'd recommend that.

Keep an eye on the sales Sticky at the top.

Innokin T18 or T22 are good options also but more expensive.

I am now ridiculously glad I came here to ask. Amazing, thanks for all the technical advice and recommendations guys. Otherwise I more than likely would have ended up blacked out on the floor from nicotine overload.

@nkav86, Thanks so much for the juice rec and for all the technical details!

@moleyv, She did say she was using a very low strength. She primarily uses it while she's enjoying a couple of drinks, as she struggles without the smokes when she's out socialising. I'll start with a 3/6 and go from there when using the Kanger.

Just on the liquid, it can be hard to find something you really really like just by reading a description. Heading to a decent store, they will let you sample.

You'll get recommendations here on stores to visit depending on your general location.

Also please do read up on battery safety. There is a decent thread on it here somewhere. Get decent batteries and a charger.

Edit: just to say I'm echoing what nkav said about the batteries, I realise it was already said.

I am going to echo what Athanri said and follow it up with the fact that the AIO is quite cheap and extremely user friendly . It will get you started with vaping and be a handy back up item while you are getting used to the one you bought . The AIO is becoming the go to recommendation for people new to vaping ............ but! and this is a 'warning but' , there does seem to be some dud AIO's out there that tend to overheat, so watch for that . Buy local and you can easily exchange .

Only a short answer as I'm in the dentists :-(

Get a mouth to lung tank like the Nautilus Mini or GS Air with 1.5 ohm coils. They're not expensive and will go on top of that box. Direct lung hots will bust you open if you start in them.
Start on 12-18mg/ml liquid and vape as if you were smoking - draw it in to the mouth and then inhale. I was using 4ml of 18mg at the start with a similar enough habit.
Start at 10 watts and adjust up and down to your taste - I vape at 11-13.

    Good luck.

A Squonker wasn't the idea start really. Any chance you can take it back? trade it for something more beginner friendly?

You could invest in another Mod and tank, if you plan to stick to the vaping you will most likely do that in time anyway. Keep this one on side until you figure it out properly. No point in being frustrated with a device, it'll only turn you off.

This is a great suggestion. I have the GS Air as well and it's a better vape than the Joyetech at half the price. Sorry I didn't think of it before.

The GS air was the last MTL tank I used. I preferred it to the Nautilus, both mini and standard. For the money, it's very hard beat. I still suggest them to beginner vapers to go with their iStick or whatever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,297 ✭✭✭Jaxxy

So the GS Air will go on the Kanger base?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Thecageyone

No, because the Mod is a 'squonker' - which holds a juice delivery bottle, it's not suitable to use with other tanks. That's why I said it wasn't the best choice for beginners. I haven't even used a squonker myself and I'm vaping over 3 years, and know how to build coils. Get yourself a simple, cheap mod like an iStick, to use on the side until you figure this one out.

Hi Jaxxy & welcome,I have just received my Kangor Dripbox 160 from the UK about an hour ago,the reason for buying in the UK was because I wanted a white one.
I had already bought 2 x new batteries http://e-smokeireland.com/product/samsung-inr18650-25r-2500mah-high-drain/ & a new charger to replace the old one http://ecirette.ie/shop/chargers/nitecore-d4-charger/
I got the sqonker to boot up & everything is fine & works like it should.
Next thing was to check the Rebuidable Dripping Atomizer (RDA) to make sure the coils were spaced out evenly & not touching each other.
I thought I would try the coil & cotton that came pre-built to see how it performs,I notice that the Chinese have a habit of using too much cotton,so I gave it a hair cut:D:D:D reduced the thickness but not the length.
Screwed it on my mod & got a reading of 0.3 ohms, perfect,no shorts or errors.
Next thing,I used the Unicorn Cake Eliquid 80vg/20vg & 3mg nic strength,I then filled the 7ml bottle & connected it,then I gave the coils & wick a good soaking with the same liquid & I was ready to go.
Before I put on the RDA top cap,I squeezed the bottle to just check that the liquid appeared in the RDA deck & it was soaking the cotton wicks, the first time & everytime you refill the tank,it will just need to be squeezed an extra couple of times to get the liquid moving up & then it's happy sailing.
I vaped it at different power levels, starting at 50w & then moving up every 10w increments,I was happy at 85w & still a cool vape which I like,I was doing direct lung inhales which is my favorite way of vaping, later on I will try the mouth to lung hits to see if it can be done, only problem there for me is the nicotine strength will only be 3mg unless I change the liquid,I'll see if it works first, high resistance coils like the 1.6ohms Nautilus coils,I use 24mg to get that satisfying throat hit.
I intend to try the Nautilus & other tanks on it,all tanks should work as long as you empty the bottle or don't squeeze it while using other tanks,I will let you know how I got on.
I know the Velocity & Tsunami work as well if you have the sqonking 510 pin.
I'll get back to all of you later....

    Ok,here is a quick update & a few tests I did....

MTL is not really good with the wide mouthpiece,it also burns your lips,I didn't have time to look at the spares to see if there is another drip tip setup for MTL.
I tried other tanks,I didn't bother emptying the tank, just made sure that I didn't squeeze the bottle.
    These tanks worked on it with no bother....all versions of subtanks,steamcrave aromizer V1,triton V!,cleito,ego one mega/ni200,griffin 22mm,uwell crown V1,nautilus & melo 3....

BELLUS did not work,I'll try that again tomorrow....

A fantastic bit of kit, well pleased with it,dying to try my own coils with SS & scottish roll wick around 0.15 in TC & Power mode.
If you use othe tanks like the Nautilus, don't forget to drop your watts down to 10w to 14w,too many watts will fry the coil.
    Any questions,just ask...
As it was mentioned above by someone else, watch a load of Youtube videos, they are really helpful for newbies & experienced vapors....

@youdipstick, Wow! That is a fantastic run down. Thank you so much for taking the time to post it, I really appreciate it! It's a lot less confusing seeing it written down and what steps you took, the set up, what batteries you bought and what you did with the cotton and coils.

@Thecageyone, I took your advice to get a simple and cheap mod and got myself an iStick to use until I get to grips with the Kanger. Compared with all the info I'm getting on that, the iStick is pretty simple to use, and it'll do just fine in the meantime.

Thanks again everyone, you've been brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Thecageyone

Yeah the iStick is very straight forward. I wouldn't advise a beginner vaper to use the likes of the Drip box, not until they get a good handle on the basics of wattage, different types of coils, then TC modes, and using RBA/RTA and building their own coils. Better to be patient and just get a decent, easy to set up vape first off ;)
