EGR Light & NCT

    Hi,

    I have an NCT in the morning at 8.30 am, last night while driving my 2012 VW 1.6 tdi golf the EGR light came on.

    Does this mean it will fail the NCT? Would anyone know if they will still test it (so at least I'd know there was anything else wrong with it) or will they fail it straightaway?

    After googling VW EGR valves I'm beginning to think maybe the NCT is the least of my worries!!

    Thanks for any advice

    I doubt they will do the smoke test with engine warning lights. You will need it fixed first. I would just do the NCT test tomorrow, get the issue fixed and then do a retest after you have fixed it.

    Is it the dpf light you mean? Just bring it for a good drive until the light goes out. 15-20 kms of driving in the lower 3rd-4th gears should clear it.

    It's the Engine Management light, it has come on before and the mechanic has said its the EGR valve, but to keep driving away. It hadn't come on for ages but then reappeared last night - typical!

    Should still pass . Usually only if airbag light on wil fail. This 1.6 engine do give problems with egr . Give car good hard drive in a lower gear before test emission should be sound

    EML on a diesel is an instant fail, they will refuse to even begin the test with it.

    Can you reset it? If you disconnect the battery for a few minutes it should reset it, although it's likely to come back on within a few drives.
