Just opened my oven door, didn't hit it off anything nor did I close it or open it aggressively. There was a bang and it smashed into little pieces all over the floor. Got a fright to be honest!

    Is this common?

Could have been over heated, cooked too quickly or just one too many uses!
Either way, the construction and planning forum may not be the best place for it :)

    Is it still under warranty?
Or can the glass be replaced? I know my oven, the glass can be removed to clean etc so it may be an option.

    [snip]

I thought this would be the best place for it. Warranty is out. Just was curious to hear if it was common or not. Glass dispersed away from the oven up to 6 feet away. Was unbelievable to see

Sorry, don't know what I was doing with that last post

Happened me in a place I was renting before also. Outer glass panel of door shattered and exploded everywhere when I was doing nothing out if the ordinary, just opening it while the oven was hot.

    So... It happens!

I think certain cleaning products can weaken oven glass?

It happened in my last house to a ten year old Zanussi double oven.
Like your own story, nobody was being rough with it, it just shattered one day as someone walked past.
I contacted Zanussi and by referencing the serial number on the oven, was able to get a replacement outer glass door
( some place in Kilkenny) for about €120 and it was easy to insert.
Better than forking out for a new oven.

Happened to my shower glass door, frightening experience, but not uncommon.

Took some time to collect all the debris.

Contact the place you bought it from and inform them of this incident.

Check the fine print from the glass installers documents - look for caveats regarding 'Nickel sulphide'

How long is the glass installed?

Happened mine 3 years ago during the really hot few weeks we had in the summer. The oven wasn't even in use. We were sitting out the back and heard the smash. Went in and the front glass of the oven has smashed into tiny pieces. It was everywhere. Bizarre incident. All we could think of was maybe the sun was beaming onto the door and it overheated. Found a replacement online and been fine since.
