Under sow Oats/Barley with Grass

Looking to do some reseeding towards the end of June. Current grass is old tired and full of weed including rushes. I would like to take a crop of wholecrop out of the land while I am going to the effort of reseeding.
The other benefit would be the wholecrop/grass mixture should suppress the weeds coming back.
Has anyone done this before, if so I`d like to know the following
Which is best for wholecrop Wheat Barley or Oats?
What method do I need to till, would it be good enough to spray the current grass silage with roundup a few days before harvest then disc harrow an use the one pass?
Can the both the grass and crop seed be sown at the same time?
Would it be ok to use the corn seed saved or brown bag seed or do I need to source the seed elsewhere?
Can the wholecrop be baled into round bales or is it a pit only job?
    Any other tips ?

Yep. Don't do it. At this stage of the year you're at least a month too late by the end of June you're only a matter of weeks away from the first winter crops being sown. Tbh end of June is more like cutting date for undersown. Crack on with the reseeding though. Whatever method suits the situation best. If the field is unpoached and level id be direct drilling but there's a whole range of options between that and deep ploughing and all the passes that takes to lay out a field.

If you did it this it would be late but should work if you get enough rain but not the end of june.works fine in bales but either feed them early or do a super j8b on the rats

I thought 10 weeks would be ample time to grow a crop. After all the whole crop would not be going to full maturity if I am making silage out of .
At 10 weeks it would be mid-September harvest.
Am I wrong so in my calculation?

Less growth from late June on and the crop will have to head out before cutting

Cereals are programmed to produce a seed regardless the quality/quantity. It's measured in growth and development, stress drives development vs growth which is more plant matter. Sowing now will give you something but it will be a waste of time as regards cutting as it may be a ft tall and only 1main tiller and a small no. Grains in the head. As plants also measure day lengths and just by timing fertiliser application can there be much of an effect.
4-6'weeks ago was the time to put in spring barley, oats need growth reg which is not what you want ,if wheat you really want to be winter to make it your while and hard to undersow I presume. Just putting out seed from a heap will work 90odd% of the time but if not cleaned it will be hard to drill and merchants won't sell much crop rather than sell you cleaned seed at a margin iykwim so looking for a friendly neighbour.
