HAP Scheme

Hi, I’m currently looking for accommodation as my landlord has given notice of eviction. He’s taken the house back for major refurbishment. I’m struggling to find somewhere for my boyfriend and myself. There is nothing suitable in Dublin at the moment – most places are very small, not suitable for more than 1 person or the landlord won’t take rent allowance. We’re even looking outside Dublin too, because we need somewhere soon.

I’m receiving rent allowance for the flat I’m in at the moment but the place I’m going to view this week is over the limit for rent allowance, so I doubt I could get for it. We have saved up some money, so we would be ok renting for a few months but I think I would need to apply for the HAP scheme eventually.

After how long moving in can I apply to the local county council for social housing? Also if the landlord agrees, when can I apply for HAP?

Not sure what to do if I can't find somewhere that will take RA or HAP.

If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
