astra revs when changing gears

Lads, I put this query in the Motors section but got only 1 reply...I should have stuck with the 4x4 boys I know...:D Anyway, car is astra 1998, 1.4 X14XE 16v engine, 118K miles. Bought it recently as cheap run-around. Annoying habit of bliping up the revs when changing gears rather than revs dropping. Cleaned throttle body, cleaned idle control valve, cleaned EGR, blanked EGR, unblanked EGR again, cleaned MAP connections, replaced air sensor in air intake, checked best I could for vacuum leaks in hoses but couldn't find any. Nothing has worked. And NO DTCs showing on my Delphi Reader. Idling fine at rest and nippy driving, just this odd reving up behaviour when you press clutch to change up gears.
I read in Vauxhall/Opel UK site that this engine - the X14XE Ecotech - does this as normal  That doesn't make sense to me.
Anyone with any ideas? Or anyone with this model astra that encountered this issue?
    As always thanks in advance.

We had a Zaferia 1.6 petrol would do the same, mechanic cleaned throttle body and would be fine for a few months.
