Fixing furniture to dry lined wall

    Hey all,

We have an external wall that is dry lined - we're planning on insulating the other walls externally but this one hasn't enough room between us and neighbours.

I want to attach cupboards to the wall so that kids won't pull them down on themselves.

I think the dry lining is something like 9cm if I recall correctly.

Should I just get extra long fixings and drill into the wall through the dry lining or will that make it more likely that moisture will get through the dry lining, condense on the inside of the external wall and cause damp/mold?

Anything else that I should be watching out for/thinking of?

    Thanks!

Use concrete screws, no plugs needed, just drill and screw in.

I take it the IWI is done and the EWI is to follow

Attached please find an example of such a configuration, showing a thermal bridge along the window reveal in the top left

Ideally the ewi and iwi should link, eliminating the TB.

Re the presses, wouldn't have two many concerns about moisture ingress through the fittings, but you should make then airtight using a flexible sealant

My preference for such presses is to allow ventilation in behind them as it reduces the risk of mould, even with IWI

Thanks a lot, Calahonda52 and aujopimur. It sounds like I don't need to worry too much about it.

The IWI is done Calahonda52 and EWI will follow. Though we've worked through our budget doing up the have-to-do immediate things like roofs, plumbing and wiring, so the EWI may be a year or more away!
