Help picking a resort in the Sun..

I have the chance to take a week/ten days off in June and am looking at heading to the sun with the Mammy. But for the life of me, I can't decide/have no idea where to go.
I've looked at Cambrils & Porto Cristo, but for various reasons they're not working out.

We're looking for somewhere close to the beach, near the centre of a resort, close to the airport. No need for wild night life, but we do like to go out for a walk/bite to eat in the evening. Accessibility/on the flat would be a high priority.

Any suggestions or Am I looking for too much?

Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote fulfills all that criteria. The weather there is also almost guaranteed to be Sunny, but it rarely gets above 30c.

How about Madeira or the Azores

Cala Millor/Cala Bona sound perfect for what you're looking for, lovely quiet area but plenty of restaurants etc, not a hill in sight

    Torremolinos.

    Bajondillo apartments.

Close to a variety of restaurants, close to the lift up to the town where you can get the train from/to airport (though they give a free shuttle if you book the apartments through their site), across the road from the beach. Nightly entertainment and activities. Great spot.

Not sure Torremolinos is the best "with mammy" holiday. Lots of younger generation clubing type around.

It's not really. Of course there are areas where you'd get younger pubs but overall it's fab. Beautiful promenade and beach. Benalmadena is lovely too.

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is a lovely resort, a bit more sedate and level than Puerto del Carmen but still with life if needed.

I'd also recommend Marmaris in Turkey, an incredibly well laid out resort, with a great beach. There is the catch 22 thing though - you'll get a great deal for it, even at this short notice but that's because there's been a few bombings in Turkey (nowhere near that resort), as well as Russians boycotting it. So they're crying out for visitors, if you don't mind the increased risks in that whole area.

Torremolinos is the ideal Mammy holiday I've found. We are back in bed before the young crowd are out. They tend to be further down the coast these days than Torremolinos, which is quite heavy on the older folk.

Costa Teguise in Lanzarote would fit the bill too.

Oh and Tossa Del Mar on the Costa Brava, Ryanair fly to Girona airport (they call it Barcelona Girona but it's miles away from Barcelona but very close to Lloret del Mar (party town) and Tossa del Mar (relaxed)

Quarteira is a nice spot. Half an hour transfer from Faro airport (shorter if you are hiring a car), beautiful long beach with the marginal (promenade) running alongside it with plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops. the neighbouring resort of Vilamoura is just a 10-15 minute walk up the beach.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm determined to book tonight/tomorrow if at all possible
We've been to Torremolinos before (the Bajondillo end) and it's perfect for the Mammy so might look at that again. But Tossa del Mar looks good if I can find somewhere that suits

Tossa de Mar is winning out. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are hills, are they steep, are the roads cobblestoned?

Great suggestions so far, and I wish I was your Mammy, good on you!

What about Estepona in Spain. Lovely spot, all level at the beach and town ends. Great market on a Sunday, and lovely restaurants. Bus direct from Malaga Airport too for a few euro. Plus the bus station there connects with places all over. If you are of a mind to travel that is. Seville is one of them. Not to be missed.

Anyway, just throwing it out there for you to think about.

I visited Tossa on a day trip. There's 4 elements to it

    1) a small castle up high on hill, right beside the town with a fantastic view, few small restaurants and a road train for a few Euro to carry you up

    2) a huge beach with beach front restaurants and a ferry/sight seeing ship to get to other resorts. 1 big downpoint is that the beach sand is coarse, not very comfortable to walk on, grand for sun bathing.

    3) an old town, cobbled streets but not too difficult to walk in. Loads of authentic restaurants and reasonably up market galleries

    4) a modern town centre hidden behind all this with more tacky shops and a weekly market.

All this is crammed into a relatively small area, we walked all the town in 30 minutes, Castle took about 2 leisurely hours. But definitely got the feeling it's a more upmarket resort than lloret de mar which is only about 5km away by boat but that's the monster resort of the area (if you do need a change of scenery). I didn't stay in Tossa, so can't give you full definitive answer for what it's like, only the impression.

Oh 1 other thing we noticed in Lloret, Irish and British tourists definitely in the minority. Being close to the border it's more French and German visitors that have driven down. It means there's a lack of 'Irish ' pubs if you're looking for familiarity. English is still widely spoken.

The centre is not too hilly but around it is hilly. The old walled town is very attractive. It is a nice place. How will you get there from airport?

Just back from Santa Eulalia in Ibiza. Really lovely place.

Stay at home a go down to Dollymount Strand. The weather is beautiful. Sure you don't need to go to some fancy resort.

If I were you King Brian I'd stay away from that locality. Remember the Battle of Clontarf. You don't want to lose your head to them Vikings a second time.

@Patser, how did you get from the Airport to Tossa?

We booked a private transfer - I remember using an insanely cheap website, so much so I was nervous about it but it worked perfectly.

Can't really remember it's name, I'll go see if there's old emails from it.

Also it was Lloret de mar, we stayed in. Much bigger resort but one side of that town is dominated by clubs. We were in older end, much more family orientated. Still my wife ordered a cocktail one day and was handed a monstrously big yoke - apparently it had 1litre of spirits in it, but they weren't allowed say that anymore by the council so just called them XXL. We hadn't been there long.

Edit; it was a website called Intaxi.com we used but it seems to be gone.
