Pike Fishing on the Liffey

Does anyone know if pike fishing is good on the Liffey anywhere from Lucan to Celbridge. I was thinking of going down to a spot beside the Garda boat club near town but I'm not sure if it would be worth it. The only decent fish that I caught in Lucan was a 15lber on deadbait. Is it worth using deadbait during the summer or should I be on lures and what time of the day should I go fishing

a lot of people leave pike alone during the summer. they go belly up if they're not brought in quickly. They fight harder in the summer and it takes longer for them to recover in hot weather. Ive seen it myself once or twice. If you are goin after them maybe use lures and have 30 or 40lb braid on your reel and a decent spinning rod, push the barbs down on your lures as well so you can unhook them quickly and get them back quick. None of this playin the fish crap. They also swallow deadbaits a lot quicker in summer. If your not alert you'll have a deep hooked pike. why not try for tench instead, ive had a few this year and they fight like mad..

You'll find all sorts of tench rigs here.

A lot of pikers switch to tench for the summer - though many lure and fly pike anglers will keep going. You have to be especially careful with dead-baiting in warmer weather. Pike tend to swallow the baits down fast and can exhaust themselves during the fight.
It's best to use heavier gear and bully them in - don't let them 'play themselves out'.

It's the right time of year for tench and they'll give you one hell of a fight so definitely worth a go.
