Ryanair half price kids baggage fees

posted in travel forum but then thought it may be better here !
went to book 20 kg bag for return flight to Tenerife from Dublin
was coming in at 110 euro........noticed the kids ones were half the price so deselected my bag and tried it for one of the kids
It went through at a price of 50 euro . Booked and paid through the app.
Not sure if this is some kind of special offer or a glitch.......

They started this last summer. What is even better is you don't need to match the same number of adult bags to kids bags, like you do on AL.
I'm travelling back in a few weeks with FR and booked both bags as the kids. Going out with AL I had to book an adult bag and a kids bag.

so there won't be any problem at airport?
I've just one bag booked each way under child's name

Travelled at Christmas two kids bags going out and on return flight, no adult check in bags and had no issue at all.

This has been on the go since last year, I book all our bags under one of the kids. Its not a trick or scam-its just a family friendly feature

First time I've done it but the booking went through no problem, with AL it wouldn't allow me to put in the 2 bags as kids.
I've put all the passport details etc in, no issue there, confimation of the flights from FR and bag details, so I cannot see a problem at the airport, the check in staff don't know how much we've paid.

I booked all under a child, all half price. The price of luggage to canaries has rocketed on both airlines compared to 3 years ago

I don't think so, I have booked a half price bag with one of the kids and no adult bag booking was required

Just to clarify for all; if you book through the website then an adults bag needs to be booked in order to book a kids bag. If you book through the app (at least the Android app - no sure about iOS) then kids bags can be booked without adults bags.

Booked via the app in January and we have 3 x 20kg kids bags for €105 in total for return flights Cork to Reus.
We only have 2 kids travelling

a bit sneaky,looked through their fees for baggage, not a mention of half price for kids so could have saved myself €50.

I booked yesterday, the teenagers bag was full price without an adult bag. On another booking I got business for the same price as the lower fare + bag

It was absolute pot luck on my behalf that I figured it out

just booked a bag for my 2 year old for our trip in August. Saved us 35 euro! I was always under the impression that you had to buy an adult bag first. Interestingly enough, the 20kg bag for the child was full price, but the 15kg bag was discounted. Not sure if this is intentional or not.

As a software developer I can tell you that absolutely there would be different code behind what the website and app do.

Incidentally last year checking in on the app gave me free priority on to the plane with exit door seats only for the cabin crew to move us because they figured out that my son was under 16

Flew to fuerteventura last month booked child only bags one 20 kg and one 15kg got both for half price without booking an adult one. Booked through website (back in Dec)

A bag is not a baby equipment, therefore they may not accept it at the airport.
If you have a bag that looks like a travel cot, it might get through for free as you have 2 baby items for free

I booked 2 bags on my sons name and they would only let me check one piece of hand luggage - you can normally check one piece per bag. Handy to know if you are traveling with multiple kids.

just for info,
if you have a booked bag, when checking it in, the checkin desk people will also take one of your carry on bags at that time.
so always pack a carry on bag with the thought that it will go in the hold at the checkin desk.

They only do that when the flight is packed. If there are many unsold seats, they won't take your carry on bag on the hold for free.

They took one from me in Seville on Saturday even though I dropped the bags early. They seem to do it as a matter of course now. As I said earlier though - they will only take one per passenger - even if they have 2 full size bags checked.

they have taken my carry on bag, when checking a bag, at the checkin desk, on all flights I have had a checked in bag, whether the flight was full or not, in the last year or so.

Wow, good to know!

I've previously asked them to check my carry on bag when checking a bag, but they said they can't take it as the flight was not full and that there will be space in the cabin. This was months ago though.

Good to know that now they always take them!

I checked in 2 bags under one name as we were all flying together. Rookie mistake.

They fixed it on mobile. Actually they made it worst as there is no 50% discount even when an adult buys a bag.

In order to get the family discount, booking needs to be done on desktop until they fix the issue.

Didn't work on desktop for me. Just as well really. An hour's que in Dublin and the same coming home..easier with carry on and a washing machine at the other end.
