Doesnt one of the jurors have health issues? That's causing the delay.

I thought that was just on friday, a juror was sick. Assuming the juror is well today, can it run on this week again?

I guess it's up to the judge. If the jury report that they are making progress or otherwise actively doing something to achieve a verdict, the judge will let them at it.

If they look they're going around in circles and stuck in an "agree to disagree" scenario, the judge will tell them to go home.

First verdicts in, still deliberating others. Based on the length of the trial I'm not surprised it's taking this long.

On the original point, I think the previous record was the Catherine Nevin trial which has just been shaded by this trial.

There is no definitive answer to this question, but trials in New South Wales have suggested that trials lasted longer than one week can result in jurors understanding only 50% of the matters presented to the Jury.

Q: Is it a blessing or a curse to appear in defence of a client in a protracted trial?

    A: A blessing.

A protracted / confusing trial will avail a defendant, who must always enjoy the presumption of innocence.

A long and complex trial will negatively impact a prosecution, who must, despite an already-uphill battle, fasten a convincingly watertight case despite the extra confusion, extra jargon and myriad perplexities facing a jury
