Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I'm looking for a couple bits of information on an apprentice mechanic if anyone can help.

How long is Phase 1 on average?
Where are they sent for Phase 2? The location of the training centres for say someone in Dublin.
What DIT are used for the other off the job phases?

    Thanks

Phase 1 is as long as the employer makes it.Generally speaking Id take on a 1st year and sign them up as after 6 months.
They usually get called for phase 2 within a year.

However some employers will take on a 1st year and not sign them up for 12 months.
This adds on an extra year to the whole training and its mostly done to see if the person is commited to the crap wages(while in training) and is serious about being a mechanic.

There are strict rules about taking on an apprentice and its not easy if you get a bad one to take on another one so the employer and apprentice needs to be 100% sure that the apprentice is committed to the training.

Phase 2 can be anywhere in the country. If youre based in Dublin say you could get called to Sligo for phase 2.Its up to you if you want to take it.If you refuse however you can go back to the bottom of the list so to speak. Most lads are willing to get digs etc and get phase 2 going as soon as its offered to them.

DIT Bolton street is where most apprentices in Dublin end up.

    Its all here .

Im not sure about the rest of the country as I m based in Dublin.
