Is that a main dealer ??

Firstly if that was me i would have thrown a second hand one on for a hundred quid or so sure the car is not worth much more than what you paid for the alternator.

An alternator can have an effect on a whole load of issues.
1st get the engine running. At IDLE turn ON the main beam headlights and give it a slight rev. If they brighten up at all it's not your alternator.
2nd get the battery High discharge tested at your local Motor factors. Take a couple of spanners and socket set, to remove said battery if it fails.
While disconnecting the Batt leads pay attention to the leads, are they loose, is there corrosion. Lightly clean them with a small piece of sandpaper and put a small amount of Copper grease on the battery + - poles before fitting.
Saying something like "....don't think its the battery as I never had a problem with it before...." is daft. It's mechanical problem ....do you basic field checks and stop Thinking..!
