They ask for bank statements as proof of income, it's neither good or bad it just means they are looking at your claim.

If your claim is approved you will get the grant as part of back pay.

I applied for carers allowance in august. Got a letter asking for updated information, which I sent in the first or second week of December, which they have received, but I have heard nothing else. Does this waiting time seem excessive? Has anyone applied around December and had a reply?

My partner applied last April. Got letter back in August looking for statements, sent them in immediately.. Nothing heard so she rang in February to see what the delay was, another letter end of march looking for statements again, then a letter last week to say she wasn't entitled to it as the person in question didn't qualify for the need of a full time career.

So it took 14 months, numerous bank statements ect to be told she was never going to get it. Joke of a system.

Send more medical evidence of the incapacity of the sick person, and a letter from your partner setting out details of the specific caring duties she fulfills, up to Longford immediately seeking a "review" as suggested in the letter of refusal.
Simultaneously send a copy of same to the Appeals office in Dublin asking for an Appeal
Don't forget to include a copy of the letter of refusal

this is a national disgrace the waiting time has to be cut, people are claiming and dying before they get it

im waiting ten months and the wait has resulted in me being evicted..

If I remember correctly you have to be getting carers benefit/ allowance for 6 months to qualify for the grant.

You meet to be caring for the person for at least 6 months including the first Thursday in june, it doesn't say anything about having a payment for 6 months or that it has to be the preceding 6 months.

That's not correct. If you were caring go for the person last Thursday and you were considered caring for the person at any point before that then you will get the RCG
If the person you were caring for died up to six weeks before last Thursday you are still considered to be entitled

This is incorrect as well. Here is welfare page about RCG
There's not one word here about 6 months or any amount of months
If you were caring last Thursday then you are entitled

I'm afraid it's you that's incorrect, look in the rules section of your link.

Sorry it's you that needs to reread. The 6 months rule only applies to Carers NOT already in receipt of a Carers payment. The OP has applied for Carers and is making the enquiry in that context.

Well it doesn't say that so there's no possible way the average person would take that meaning from it, could you provide a link that explains that only applies to carers not in receipt of a payment?

Note below from the link I posted in the very first paragraph in the Rules.
Do you see were it stipulates the conditions including the 6 months rule ONLY APPLIES IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING ONE OF THE PAYMENTS LISTED?

The grant is paid to people getting one of the payments mentioned above. It can also be paid to certain other carers providing full-time care. If you are not getting one of the above payments, you must be:

    Aged 16 or over
    Ordinarily resident in the State
Caring for the person on a full-time basis
Caring for the person for at least six months - this period must include the first Thursday in June
Living with the person being cared for or, if not, be contactable quickly by a direct system of communication (for example, telephone or alarm).
