Hey folks. Looking for a bit of advice.

    I'm selling a 07 Jetta - http://www.adverts.ie/car/volkswagen/jetta/2007-volkswagen-jetta-for-sale/10194592

Mechanically its spot on, but the body work isn't in great condition. One pretty nasty ding, and then the rest of the paintwork could do with some TLC too. It's been up for over a month. I've had a few folk look at it, but its yet to shift. I based the pricing on the going rate for the model, then took off a grand for the body work that needed doing.

Is it just a question of second hand cars being slow to shift right now? Have I priced it too high? I have it on Done Deal, Cars Ireland and Carzone too. I'd quite like it gone so I could get the new jammer in the driveway. Outside of those sites are there other ways I could try and shift it?

    Thanks!

The ad is good, and the pictures are great, better than most ads at least. When was it last serviced? And what exactly is up with the bodywork? It looks fine to me from those pictures.

Generally speaking, for a normal car like that I'd think just gradually reducing the price until you start getting interest would be enough. Especially given that it sounds like a well maintained motor.

Take the steering wheel cover off :)

Good ad. Maybe put 1.6 in the title, and put it on donedeal.

Ad is good but I would remove the steering wheel cover and retake that photo. I'd mention when it was last serviced if that was in the last 6 months and also mention when timing belt was done.

Stick it up on Donedeal unless you want someone to swap you a washing machine with cash your way.

Last serviced in January by Frank Keane. It's a great car. Only getting shot of it because i can't get 3 kids seats into the back.

There's one fairly nasty ding/scrape, running along the bottom of the drivers side door and door sill and a tiny bit into the front panel. It's about 5/6 inches. Other then that there are a few scratches in the paintwork and a little bit of peeling by the boot. Overall its a bit dull too. The black hides it reasonably well, but I've tried to be honest in the ad.

Is there anything I could get other the could get over the counter in a motor factors that might take care of some scratches?

Cheers for the tip on the steering wheel cover folks, and for any other advice. I'll do that. I set the price at 3.5 a few days back. I'll revisit it next week if I've had no bites.

    Thanks!

You could try getting T-Cut, depending on the damage it might clean it up but is only really a temporary fix. I wouldn't try a spray repair myself.

Have you been getting text enquiries about the car? A lot of people ignore texts and yes you do get some nonsensical texts when selling but my last 2 cars I sold the buyers first contacted me by text.

Spend €100 getting the paint work de-tarred and polished up. There's not much you can do with that scratch but personally it wouldn't bother me on a car that price so ling as the rest of the body work was straight and original.

The odd text inquiry yeah. I'll look into a T-Cut, ta.

It sounds like the bodywork issue is very minor to be honest. I mean there's being honest, and there's being honest! From reading the ad I'd get the impression that there was a whole panel smashed in. Remove it I'd say. It's a cheap car, I don't think anyone would expect perfection at that price point.

A good wash, polish and wax would have it looking really well actually. Although it does look very well in the photos as is.

Not huge demand for petrol Jettas so no matter how well the advert is presented or low the price is it could take time to sell it.

Put it on DoneDeal. Price it lower than anything similar. Adverts is a total waste of Internet bandwidth.
