    Hi Guys

Apologies I hope this is in the right forum, I am trying to record to a Sony DVD recorder with built in hard drive from a Saor view TV (Sony).
I have connected up the TV aerial to recording box and from the recorder back to the TV and also connected the scart lead from the recorder to the TV,
I get the Sony DVD menu on the screen but cannot get Saor view to display on the TV, Saor view will work if connected to the back of the TV directly. My recorder is a Sony DVD Recorder RDR - AT100, it wont work even if I use the HDMI connection either, anyone any idea what I am doing wrong?

Your recorder doesn't have a Saorview tuner. You need something to decode the signal into something the recorder recognises.

The SCART and HDMI connections on your TV are probably only inputs and cannot send a picture to your recorder.

Sounds like you'll need a separate Saorview box. You can get them very cheap online, if you're bothered.

DVD Recorders only record analogue channels, hence why it can't pick up Saorview

The only way to record Saorview from a TV is to connect a USB external drive to the TV, that's if your TV is capable of it

What's the model of the TV?

As the previous posters said I assume you're aware the recorder doesn't have a Saorview tuner so no point connecting the aerial to it, TV only.

I've previously recorded a Saorview programme from a Sony TV to a Sony HDD/DVD recorder, you will only be able to record the TV channel selected. I did it by connecting a scart between the TV and the recorder. The scart lead has to be connected to an in/out scart connector on the TV and recorder, the TV outputs an analogue signal to the recorder's input. To record select the input source (Line 1, Line 2 etc) on the recorder and press record or set timer, TV may have to be selected on for this to work although my 2008 Sony had a timer option that worked by outputting a timer selected channel in standby.

    A less complicated option would be a Saorview recorder, http://www.powercity.ie/index.php?par=10-23&cat=Vision + Computing&action=brandstory
