    Hi,

Client of mine has on of the above. Wasn't supplied initially by me so not familiar with it.

BAsically, it switches on, in that you can see the time digits on the front panel but nothing shows on screen. It does switch the TV channel by scart when it comes on.

Anyone know if I can re flash software or anything to this box to see if I can get it going again.

    Thanks

is this not a HD box
Have you got a hdmi cable plugged in / have you selected hd input/ source on the tv remote
Maybe the box is set to output in hd and your using a scart

    if not then plan B

A quick google would indicate that it uses the spark operating sys
    Like the amiko alien 2
so you could look here for firmware
    http://www.amikostb.com/?q=product&id=84

    And try flashing the firmware
Do you get anything at all on the screen like a boot logo

If you cant access the menu
It may be possible to use a boot loader to send the firmware like ali flasher and a null modem cable
if its not working at athe moment you have not got much to loose

From memory this is an ALI chipset box (m3606) running the ALI SDK.

It has no null modem port so you cannot rescue the eeprom that way. If there is no load on boot recovery then you woul have to jtag it.

    Dont think they run spark.

@ OP try HDMI cable. At least them you may have video output to access the menu's and load an allcode bootloder and firmware.

    So it does.

Well then there maybe a recovery flasher, haven't seen one.

If you cant find one use the Ariva one for the 150/250 boxes, with an original Amiko 8820 abs firmware file as they are both the M3606 chip.

Otherwise huntdown the ALI Universal Fixer.

You'll need a €3 null modem cable and a PC with a null modem to flash the box.

Yep that is what I was thinking something like ali flasher but using the amiko .abs
attached is a ferguson .winrar zip file with some flashing tools
But obviously at your own risk
But as its not working anyway :-)

Nothing comes up on screen whether using scart lead or hdmi lead.

Probably more hassle than its worth trying to get it going again. With the prices of combi boxes these days like.

    Anyone need a spare remote☺

Why would you throw away a perfectly good box ?

The Chipset in these boxes is virtually indestructable.

All it needs is reviving. All you need is

    1. A M3606 Upgrade tool - free - its software

    2. An Original firmware for the Amiko 8820m box - free - its firmware

    3. A €4 Null modem cable

    4. A PC/laptop that has a R232 port on it to connect to the box and run the flash.

    5. 3 Minutes of your time to resurrrect a perfectly workable box.

I cannot download the upgrade tool as for some reason google won't allow it. Any other ways or is it safe to just by pass the google warning.

What's the process once I actually get it downloaded. I have the null modem cable

    Should be safe enough
i would imagine the procedure to be along the lines of
    power off the stb
in the software point out the folder the firmware is in
    Then power on the receiver

A lot of this kind of equipment only requests update at boot
thing to remember is if its not working there is nothing to loose

Edit i Had to disable my antivirus to download

The exe is upx using LZMA compression and is picked up as a virus, but its not, its a harmless file that you double click on that in turn pulls up a dialogue box, with a browse feature to browse to your abs file and then press upload. Ferguson really need to get that sorted, but anyhow.

Turn your virus protection off, temporarily, until you have flashed the box.

    1. Download the Ariva Upgrade Tool (use this one). Unzip the folder somewhere.

    2. Download the Amiko ABS file.

    3. Connect your PC from its serial port to the boxes R232 port using the Null modem cable. Make sure box is off at switch on back.

    4. Double click the Ariva_3606_EromUpgrade.exe file that was extracted. It will pull up a dialog box. Select the Com port - default is 1. Baud Rate should be 115200. Parity=Even. Operate Mode= Upgrade. Include bootloader should be ticked.

Pick the software you extracted as per No.2 above in the browse bar (the Amiko ABS firmware file).

(make sure box is turned off before) Click next. Turn box on at rocker switch. Box will reboot when the file gets to 100%, it may display this on your Amiko screen as well as your PC screen.

This is the sequence for all ALI chip boxes.
