Ditigal Drawing Pad for beginners

Hi All,

My son (8) is interested in getting starting with digital drawing on the PC. Can anyone recommend a good starter level drawing pad and pen?

Looks like there's a lot out there, so a bit confused!

Does software come with it ro is there an advised software package to go with?

I'm running Windows 7.

I've always liked the Wacom range. It comes with a basic version of ArtRage, which you can upgrade, but as far as i know you can use it with any art software.
