Is that the power steering fluid bottle ? Whatever it is its almost empty and needs to be filled but I don't know what fluid to put in ?

    Edit: it's a 1.4 golf

Also would it being very low cause my car to make a weird noise when I'm turning or when I take my foot off the accelerator?

Yes, thats to Power steering reservoir. You can buy power steering fluid (dot 4 type) from a good garage or motor factors. Keep an eye on the levels after you fill it just in case you have a leak somewhere!!

Thanks il get a bottle of it this eve. When I got my timing belt done 2 months back the mechanic filled the power steering fluid so there must be a leak I'd say

Check the high pressure pipes in and around the pump (pump will have a belt running to it off the engine, located under the alternator) Is there any drops of oil on your driveway or where you normally park? Shouldn't be too hard to replace.

The sound you say wouldn't be affected by the PS pump, that normally makes a high pitched grinding noise when the wheels are locked to last on both the left and right directions.
Can you describe better when you hear the noise/conditions when it happens?

Which bottle are you on about?

If it's the one with the G12 it's coolant. Your mechanic would have filled this when timing belt was done.

The other one with the green lid on it is indeed power steering fluid. make sure you get the correct VW type one. otherwise you will have problems with seals on your power steering rack.
A question you must ask is why is it low?
Do you have a leak some where?

When the wheel is locked in full I'm hearing a kind of screeching noise, even when the car is stopped. When I'm driving and I'm locking to turn somewhere I hear the same noise.

When I leave my foot off the accelerator I hear a similar noise aswel

It could be a loose power steering belt?

Check the levels of the power steering fluid.

Is it difficult to turn the steering wheel currently?

Sounds like the pump is starting to give trouble, top up the brake fluid and see if it still makes to noise. If it does, its definitely the pump!!

It's not difficult to turn anyway. Il top up the fluid this eve and if it doesn't help il get the mechanic to take a look at it
