    Hi,
My Mam has applied for the contributory pension, they have told her she is entitled to a reduced rate of €198. My question is could she apply for the non contributory now? She is seperated and my brother (30y/o) lives with her, she is due to retire in june and will have no other form of income.

She can apply, they'll examine her entitlement, and she will receive whichever is the most beneficial. The Non-Contributory Pension is means tested, and your brother's as well as your mother's means will be assessed (here's how the means are counted: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/means_test.html)

Absolutely wrong. The brothers income WILL NOT be assessed.
OP just your mothers financial circumstances will be looked at.

Thanks for the replies i dont think my brothers means will affect her payment. I know she is not entitled to fuel allowance i think that was means tested against his wage. Should she just get the new form and send it in? Should she also state why she wants to apply for it.

Yes, the fact that your brother is living there will affect her entitlement to "secondary" benefits ( electricity allowance, free TV licence, fuel allowance).
No she doesn't need to offer any explanation as to why she is applying for a non con pension. She will have to furnish them with evidence of all her financial affairs.
Just go right ahead and complete an application form
