    Hello,

Tis the season for sunburn and bbq food-poisoning. I bought lumpwood charcoal in B&Q (7kg for €9). This is the brand "Diall" : http://www.diy.com/departments/bq-lumpwood-charcoal-7kg-pack/257752_BQ.prd

I wasn't impressed with the size of the lumps. about 25% was actual lumps of charcoal, the rest was chips some of it very small. Imagine the end of a box of cereal, about 2 proper sized pieces and the rest dust.

Anyone know of better quality lumpwood charcoal available? Doesnt necessarily need to be "restaurant quality".

It comes to €38 for a 9kg bag delivered, which is fairly steep.

Have you used it? Can you say anything about the typical sizes of the lumps? is it really a bag of lumpwood or just a bag of chips with some lumps?

According to their facebook page Mortons of Galway, McCambridge's and Sheridan's Cheesemonger are their Galway stockists. Will go and buy a small bag to try. We weren't too impressed with the B&Q offering either.

Thanks, had a look at it. It looked ok (if a bit expensive maybe) but each bag was actually 4 self contained self lighting packs - so only good for 4 bigger bbqs.

Will stick with the B&Q stuff for now.
