Car Insurance When Abroad (Malaga)

Hi there, I seem to constantly have problems when getting car insurance abroad. The last time I visited Malaga airport I was told I needed to fork out for extra insurance when I went to get my car. I had already paid for car insurance.

What's the best way to hire a car and pay for insurance leaving you mentally comfortable that you have done things correctly and without spending a fortune does anyone know?

    Travelling early next week

Wow, thanks for this! That sounds fantastic! And it's really that simple, they won't try to squeeze more money out of me at the car desk?

The insurance they sell you at the desk in the airport is an upgrade from 3rd party to fully comp. They get a hefty slice of commission so there is usually a hard sell. It's typically worse with the smaller operators because they quote great prices on their website on the basis that they will force persuade you to go with the extra insurance so you click on the guy offering a good deal and then they screw you with a mandatory upgrade to the insurance.

I just go with the big boys, the lady at the desk politely asks me if I want the extra insurance, I politely say 'no' and then she hands me the keys. That's how it worked out with Hertz in Malaga last October. No BS with fuel, no claims for fake damage followed by a big bill two months later, the price they quote is the price you pay so you don't drive out of the airport feeling stressed out because you know you've been screwed, a feeling which can last the first whole day of your holiday if not beyond.
