VW Windscreen washer water level sensor

    Hi there,

I have a VW Passat 2012 and today I noticed I had no water to wash the windscreen with which was unusual as I had not been shown the low level warning light that normally shows when the water level is low and requires a top up.

Can somebody help me diagnose this problem?

I have tried filling the resevoir up and draining again but the tank empties and the light does not come on.

I have only ever used either water or a water and windscreen fluid mix (halfords blue colour liquid wash)

    regards,

I am reading plenty online about faulty sensors where the light wont go off but im the complete opposite and it wont come on.

Yes, probably a sensor issue. Can you check it is seated correctly? And there isn't dirt on it?

Thank you for the reply, I have opened the bonnet to take a look at the reservoir but from looking into the area I cannot visually see the sensor (naturally I expect this near the bottom) nor can I see the lead at all around the tank.

Is it difficult to locate (is this done underneath the car or by removing the headlights etc?)

When I put the key into the ignition the dash does the 1 sec light test and I notice the amber icon displays as normal and goes away. The washer dispenses water as normal and the wipers activate as expected. Can I rule out a fuse issue?

I would have thought (am I right to think?) that a faulty sensor would result in the amber dash icon becoming illuminated (or even not show up on the ignition self test)?
