Marshmallow Update for Sim-Free Z3 Compact

Does anybody know how to get the Marshmallow update on the Sony Z3 Compact?

I purchased the phone sim-free on Expansys (I think the phone was destined for the French market). I was under the impression that my network (Three) would send the update to my phone when they receive it from Sony.

However, one Asif from Three live chat has informed me that because I didn't buy the phone from them, that they have no obligation to provide the update to me.

Can anyone here suggest what I can do?

    Cheers

Sony send the updates, not the providers. It's sim free so you should have no problems updating once it becomes available.

Thanks for that. I have seen threads where people were asking their network provider when they would be releasing the update, and I guess that's why I thought the network provider played middle man.

You are right, in many cases the Carrier will have to check that the update does not break any apps (bloat) that they pre-installed on the device. Depends on the carrier, and their agreement with the manufacturer.

Either way, did you try PC companion?

If the phone is sim-free then it won't have carrier software on it though. It'll have the original Sony one so it's only them you'd have to wait on.

I have tried PC companion and I'm told that I'm up to date. According to Sonys website the update is already available - so I can't really understand why I can't simply get the update right now.

Sony release the update region by region around the world, not all in one go. Annoying as it might be you'll just have to wait

You should have a look on xpericheck.com to correctly identify your model and see if the update is available for that variant. It should be though at this stage regardless of what software is installed.

Even if you bought it sim free it may simply be an unlocked network variant; does it have a Network carrier logo on the screen when restarting the phone?

Others have installed the update and simultaneously 'debranded' their phone by manually flashing the update (all without losing data), have a Google for those instructions and check the Xperia Blog website.
