Tooth decaying - if left untreated

    Hi,

If a wisdom tooth is decaying naturally, it is kept clean by brushing, mouth wash etc, so there is no puss or bad smell or any pain etc. should it decay naturally? What happens if it is extracted naturally, will the hole left behind is filled automatically? Is it a good idea to not to visit a dental surgeon and let it decay naturally then? What could be the risks?

if you are happy to live with dental pain, potential gum disease, potential abscesses then keep on as you are going. Alternatively visit a dentist and they may be able to save the tooth with either a filling or a root canal. if it has to be extracted then it will leave hole behind which may cause the teeth around it to move.

What's all this naturally business!!?? Decay is dental disease and not treating it will result in pain infection and potentially damage to other teeth.
I'd recommend getting it seen to...

Generally a decaying wisdom tooth is removed and not saved... There are exceptions....

The resulting hole will heal over. He adjacent teeth rarly move back into the site...

Should a lower wisdom tooth with decay be treated by root canal treatment if it became painful? Or would extraction be the best and least expensive option? My dentist mentioned I might need root canal treatment for a decayed wisdom tooth after a filling to the wisdom tooth. I've had no problems with it so far.

If the tooth is fully erupted in your mouth and the roots don't look too odd and if the tooth is useful then maybe a root canal is an option...

My experience is that wisdom teeth are generally less accessable for root canal files, hard to place rubber dam on, the roots are often in odd directions and the tooth is often not useful...
Add to that, a crown is indicated after a molar root canal so difficulties in preparing and doing that....
