Nerves before test

Last week I failed my fourth test. I have anxiety issues, and get worked up over the test in the days immediately before it (happens with regular written exams as well, so this isn't a once off event.)

It got to the point where last week before my test I felt physically sick before I went in. When I told my friend, who is originally from the Netherlands, she said they have a set of privileges for people who are anxious before exams etc and take these into account for the test.

I don't want to look like a little princess, as my tester and supervisor have both said I am capable of driving, I just can't handle the nerves etc of a driving test. Does anyone know, though, if such a programme would exist here as I feel it would be a massive help to me?

    And please, be gentle.

Hi OP. I don't know of anything like that in Ireland. Might be worth contacting the RSA.

I was also extremely nervous before my driving test. Was crying and everything the weeks leading up to it with nerves! I had heard that hypnotherapy was fantastic for driving test nerves. My Dad's wife's son failed 5 times and eventually got a few hypnotherapy sessions and finally passed. Anyway, I wasn't going to fork out for hypnotherapy for my first test but I looked up hypnotherapy videos on Youtube especially for driving test nerves. Watched this video every night the week leading up to my test. :o Thought it was a loada sh*te really to be honest but sure thought why not!

Was unbelievably calm during my test. Even in the test centre I was a little bit nervous but when I started driving I was the most relaxed I'd ever been driving! Only got 2 grade 2 faults and passed. Now I don't know if it was from the hypnosis video or not. The tester was also very nice. And I had a few drops of rescue remedy, lol. No harm in trying though! Maybe even look into proper hypnotherapy sessions. Best of luck and hope it goes well for you.

Ask your GP about getting some beta blockers for the test.

I've never heard of these, what do they do?

Request a test by a Supervisor. They are not restricted to the tight schedule of the everyday testers and will have time to calm your nerves before and during and after the test.

Do you have to specify that in the application? Or can you just request it closer to the day?

Stop the effects adrenaline has on your body when your anxious. Reduces the physical symptoms of anxiety like fast heartbeat, sweating, shaking. This makes you mentally more calm.

People take them before public speaking, interviews etc.
