    Hi.

At the moment I am driving a 09 Titanium Ford Focus and am thinking about upgrading but need advise on what to buy.

    Following are my needs:

    - ~15000 budget
    - 30k miles a year (all types of roads) so need diesel car
    - spacious with a boot no smaller than what I have at present
    - hatchback/ saloon but needs to suit young woman (i.e no avensis)
    - 2013 or above but for right car would consider 2012
    - <90k miles on clock
    - cruise control essential
    - other extra a welcome i.e daytime running lights, automatic wipers, heated seats, sat nav, park assist etc.

What i am considering but open to suggestions.
    - Ford focus
    - Ford Mondeo
    - VW Passat
    - VW Passat cc
    - Audi A4
    - Opel Insignia.

Which of the above or others would you recommend based on my needs. Looking for reliability also. Is there any engines or models to avoid? all advice appreciated.

Is this €15k plus the Focus?

When you say no Avensis but include Passat and Insignia, obviously not a size thing?

    No it's focus + ~8/9k

No problem with having a big car as long as it's some what stylish . Like not an old man farmer car like avensis 😂

I'd say there are as many Passats being driven by farmers as Avensis, if that's really a big deal.

Maybe so but I just thing passats can look more stylish and can suit a younger person

    Have choice narrowed to:

    Passat CC
    Audi A4
    Ford Focus Saloon
    Hyundai I40
    Mazda 3
    Mazda 6

Obviously the years of above cars will differ but for value, reliability and comfort which would you choose?

Out of that lot, the CC.

The Mazda3, Focus and A4 are all smaller than the other three... of the others, I'm wary of the 2.2 Mazda diesel, the i40 is the new mondeo (Garda special). CC far more stylish of the lot.

Hi, so i've done a bit more research and decided that the following are my options but am looking for opinions on what engines to avoid, smoothest ride etc.

Come the new year I will be triving about 1000km a week so diesel is a must

    Volkswagen Passat
    Hyundi i40
    Opel Insignia

Also can some one tell me what the high spec in each of these cars in around 2013/2014 i.e insignia SRi, Passat Highline

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Highline would be the highest spec in the Passat.
GT or Sport would be the highest spec on the Passat CC.
Elite would be the equivalent in the Insignia.
Premium would be the top spec i40.

Outsider to look at would be the Kia Optima, basically the same car as the i40 except for the styling but generally higher spec.

Of the options you've given I'd probably grudgingly take the Passat as it's the most accomplished feeling of them. I do like the looks of the Optima though, but the Passat has so many spec/trim/engine variants that it makes looking for one more fun.

Why did you rule the A4 out?

ruled out the A4 because with high spec it goes out of my budget really. I can get more bang for my buck with the other 3 cars

If it's comfort you're after, what about a Volvo? Couple of models that would suit:

    S60 or this one

Smaller but very good to drive, the V40.

    Passat

Yeah they are both nice cars. I do like the v40 a lot but would rather a saloon car. Might look into the s60 more...will probably be importing car from the UK.

Alot more research done today and my thoughts have completely changed. Now have it narrowed to

    Passat Highline
    Mondeo titanium (x)

Both can be found within budget for 16000 or less.

Seriously contemplating importing for the UK after reading other thread.

I'm leaning towards the 2.0l Mondeo. Is there any reason to avoid it or choose the passat instead?

Next thing I must do is test drive them!

We have a 2010 Mondeo zetec and I'd consider the seats substandard comfort compared to any Volkswagen I've ever owned. The only disappointing aspect of the Mondeo really.

I think the interior of the Mondeo is quite poor in general. Just not as nicely designed as the Passat.

So I know i said i had it narrowed down to a passat or focus but after reading though the few threads i've decided to import so I can afford more with my budget. Have found this and am looking for peoples opinion new user so cant post link.

" car on autotrader.co.uk being sold by hypermotive in bournmouth its a VW CC GT Bluemotion 2.0l 175bhp"

Have contacted the dealer and things seem to be in order car has 5 stamps for service history, garage include a service as required in the price. Has all previous mots and the last 3 service receipts. Mileage checks out with mot but car hasnt been taxed since start of august.

Mentioned to the garage about getting aa/derak check and they had no problem with same and said they are an aa accredited garage and car comes with 3 months aa warranty.

Is there anything else I should ask the garage about in relation to
    1. exporting the car
    2. CC in general, anything to look out for? anything that regularly goes fautly?

    all help really appreciated

Just off the phone with insurance company. My renewal isnt due until Janurary so i was told i would need to pay €155 extra to insure CC until then. My query is this...Sales person i was talking too said they couldnt give guestimate for yearly cost as insurance rates are always changing. if its 155 extra for these 3months would i be right in saying my insurance will be €600 ish extra for year next year?

Just do online quotes as if your insurance was up for renewal now.
The market could change completely in 6 months. Nothing is a given.
