Hi Guys just came here to say i got fiber installed at my house about 5 miles from Tralee. Here are my speeds:
240mb down 48mb up, i am a new user so i cant post a link. Apparently very little people know about the service so i said i will share it here. I got it installed with Kerry broadband. The contention ratio is 10/1. Very happy with the service!

What packages are available and at what prices? I assume it is KBB's own network and that they are not reselling eir or Siro. Any pictures of the installation?

Was that test over WiFi or wired?

I take it that this is a local community funded project? If so, how do they get round the planning permission issues. Are they using existing infrastructure like poles ?

Hi guys Ive know idea how to do multiple quotes but i will answer the questions in order.

I am not at home at the moment but I will post pictures later. The infrastructure was installed by a crowd called enet.
I have 250mb package at 60euro they also supply 1000mb for 110euro per month.

My test was carried out over the Ethernet connection. For wifi I think speeds will vary depending on your wifi device, for example the speed was about 40 up and down on my mobile.

The enet crowd installed the line on existing eircom poles and the also installed new ones along the way where required, the line follows the road, so no objections from the locals. AFAIK there was no community involvement.

Ah yes - I remember this now.
    http://www.independent.ie/business/technology/enet-showcases-national-broadband-plan-capabilities-with-1gbps-network-in-kerry-34406696.html
    and
    http://www.enet.ie/news/149/138/Taoiseach-launches-enet-s-1Gb-rural-FTTH-project.html

I thought the speed test of 240Mbps looked a bit off, but it's close enough to eNet's package (which is different to the other providers offerings).

enet are one of the bidders for the NBP. I guess this is one of their proof of concept builds.

Just to add to the picture, the black line going into the white box is the line connected to the pole on the road. (The line on the road is nice and thick) the yellow goes to router. The black line (3-4 mm dia) has 2 fiber cores although only one core is used. With the cladding its just slightly thicker than hair.
It will be interesting to see what happens in a good storm.

Interesting that they're using a combined ONT/Gateway. Curious to see if ENET offer an ONT only install or 3rd party ONT registration.

The ONT would have to be compatible with the platform. The combined unit can be configured as a bridge, essentially acting as an ONT only.

Of course. I'm just partial to the way OpenEir do it where they present ethernet to the customer and its up to the ISP to provide other CPE or not, a very flexible install.

If you had to use a resellers gear you could fall for ISPs cheaping out like VM where kit falls over even when bridged.

Wow that's impressive, roughly where in Tralee ? I'm a few miles outside near blennerville and we've just old broadband 3mb at best. I did hear fiber was in the way. Was there any sign of work in the area?
