I've noticed recently there's a lot of dealers are leaving the boots of cars for sale open on their forecourts during the day. What's the reasonoing behind this, is it to keep the cars cool inside or what's the thinking behind it?

Grabs peoples attention from the road, invites punters to have a poke around the car.

    Dehumidifying the interiors.

    ^^^ yeah possibly.
If it's a scorcher of a day it will help getting any lingering humidity in the bootwell out.

Kia dealer near me is leaving rear lights on one of their cars on overnight. Shiny lights that do attract your attention when driving by at night.

Open boot doesn't seem as cool, though :)

    Apparently Balloons also sell cars.

Yerp. I bought my last car off a balloon.

Balloons in a boot must be a big seller :)

On a ramp in the showroom, boot open, filled with balloons & with some bunting strewn across the front of it...

Forget your balloons and open boots, windy men are where it's at.

Where can one purchase such a thing?

Boots open with windy men wrapped in bunting holding balloons popping out is the be all and end all.

    Also known as skydancers.
We hired one for the weekend when it was quiet. It actually worked.

    This sort of thing.

Was working with a Dublin salesman for a while, swore by the whole open boot thing.

"put some more balloons in the boot of that Octavia"
    "There are no more balloons"

Raiden Petite Stenographer posted the correct answer Colm :D

The Holy Grail would be a straight line, with boots open, balloons all around the place, with a couple of Wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube men there as well.

Wouldn't be able to move for punters on the lot with that set up.

Toyota should get a few AE86 Corollas and put a brick on the accelerators and leave it bouncing off the rev limiters, that would attract some attention for sure

Open boots, is that really a thing? Really?

Foxy saleswomen attract me. Especially if they like having their boot open on occasion...

it's why manufacturers don't include spare wheels any more.

Now I would definitely stop and visit a showroom for that :D

On another note if I saw balloons etc I think the garage was going out of business :D

One thing that annoys me is showrooms that store all their cars at the front (with boots open sometimes) and then store them in a secure yard at the back. So every car gets started, driven 20 yards and turned off every day until it's sold. Can't do them any good at all.

I've seen a couple do this with brand new unregistered cars.

What do you want them to do though? If you don't have a huge indoor showroom, you have to have them on display outside. Out the back is no good for displaying them and you can't leave them out at night in the car park either.
Most used cars get a good spin on test drives, and new cars are usually rotated/sold so it's not the same ones all the time.
Only car I've ever seen it being an issue on was an RX8.

Yeah I understand the issue, just annoys me for some reason! Like asymmetric alloy wheels, trivial but really bugs me.

I guess that's why a lot of the bigger dealers have moved out of town so they can have "secure" storage people aren't walking past all the time out the front (one of many reasons).
