Troubleshooting

I recently moved into a house with a satellite mounted in the back garden. I've never had one before so am a total novice.

I have no idea if the dish was used for Sky or freesat in the past. It looks like it is aligned similarly to all the other dishes in the neighbourhood.

There are 2 coax cables connected to the LNB and they go over the roof and down into the sitting room. From what I can tell the cables seem intact (I have not been up on the roof).

I have a standard freesat Manhattan box (HDS2).

I have tried connecting both cables to the receiver but during setup, when it comes to scanning for frequencies it get absolutely nothing.
There are 2 bars, 1 for signal and the other for strength and they both remain empty and the scan fails.

The f connector on one of the coax cables is a little loose and has been duck taped but otherwise the cables seem ok. I presume so long as the copper core is inserted into the socket at the back of the receiver it should work.

I can't even tell if there is power going to the LNB. It just seems dead.

Any advice on what to do next ? Could an alignment problem cause this issue, or should I be getting at least something even it it is slightly off ?

    Thanks

    davej

Check the f connectors at both ends are correctly fitted and have not become loose.

Assuming the dish hasn't moved your next check is see whether the lnb isnt blown. If its one of those Sky Quad lnb's try another port on it. There are 4.

    Thanks.

I'll double check all the connections.
