If you go settings/chat/backup you'll see if is has been backed up to Google drive

Feck cant get it to work any help please help me serious emergency here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,816 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Delete it and re-install it or go to verify your number, it should ask you if you want to restore previous chats if you had it set to back up. (it does it automatically every day). Backup might not be on google drive could be locally on your phone.

    Sorry Spud82,
unless you chose a back up option (Google drive for example) then your pictures are gone.

Something like this happened to me a while ago. I was low on space on my phone and had to download an app. So I deleted some whatsapp data and boop... pictures sent/recieved via whatsapp were gone (I didn't back up to google drive)

Is it an iPhone, the photos should be in deleted photos, if it's android you'll have to download some software to your pc to recover it.
Who ever sent the photo or anyone else that revived it, should be on all their phones just get them to send it to you.

When whatsapp says it does a back up it doesn't actually mean backed up to google drive. Unless you state it too, THEN it will backup to google drive.

I might have a solution for you tho. It's a long shot. Your phone is android right?

    No need to pm :)
I will post an alternative option to see IF (and it's a long shot) that your photo remains. Give me a minute and I will reply (also, by posting it in your thread it may help people if the future with the same problem as other users can use the search fuction and stumble across this thread)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,230 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

Ok.. this is a long shot but I have seen photos I previously deleted in WhatsApp still appear in the WhatsApp data folder.

*this is only for android users using WhatsApp*

ok, So each Android phone has something known as "File Commander" (This is an app that allows you to see the files on your phone... or in other words the inner workings)

1, Locate and open up file commander by scrolling through your apps.
2, This will bring up the 'Internal Storage' of your phones files. If you scroll down you will see a folder called 'WhatsApp' - Tap into it.
3, Here you will see four folders.... Backups, Databases, Media and Profile pictures.
4, Tap Media >> then WhatsApp Images.
5, from here you will see a sent folder as well as every image you have recieved underneath said folder (Note, every image that was not deleted) However! WhatsApp can be a bit funny at times. You can tell it to delete an image but it can still remain in this folder. So this is the long shot I am telling you to try. As I noticed images I had deleted months previous still remain here.

If it's there, it's there. Otherwise it is sadly deleted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭spud82

Thanks so much, it didn't work but I reallly appreciate your help. I just feel sick at the thought of having deleted the images,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,230 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

What can you do, spud. It sucks.

But actually, there seems to be an app from the Play Store that says you can restore deleted files tho... If the image is important to you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭KungPao

    Something like this?:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete&hl=en

I recovered deleted photos with this kind of thing when I had an android phone. A bit awkward, need to root the phone and all this nerdlinger stuff. But worth the effort if you're stuck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭MyPeopleDrankTheSoup

also check the photos app on your android. it would have tried to automatically backup whatsapp images but most people turn this option off or your google photos is full of the crap meme pics you see in groups.

if it is being backed up (a blue cloud with up arrow beside 'WhatsApp Images') it should be still at https://photos.google.com/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,036 ✭✭✭Ficheall

Another whatsapp query, completely unrelated: How do you delete an old conversation and contact entirely?
Eg. You have a Whatsapp chat with someone from Tinder, things don't go anywhere, and you're left with an inevitably dull conversation which doesn't even have any filth so you try to delete the conversation, but deleting the conversation just leaves you with an empty conversation but Candy's profile pic and an empty chat are still there. And then if you delete contact, you're left with an empty conversation with +353 xxx-xxxxxxx. Reordering the two steps gives the same end result.
    Suggestions?

    mod:snipped number

Edit: It wasn't a real number! Jeez. Surely the copious amount of 69s gave that away..

Basically I got a new job and I am being harassed by a guy who is a partner of the company. We have been working together for the last month and on Friday he sent me "photos" on whatsapp. I was scared, and upset when I got them and deleted them and am fcked now. We have a meeting tomorrow and I am dreading it. I feel sick about it

The pictures should still be in your "WhatsApp Images" folder in your gallery, unless you deleted them from the chat and the gallery

Check in photos - I have an android and everything I delete is still accessible, unless I physically delete it from there. I can delete away from all other apps and folders but it's still there in photos, and even if you delete from photos you can undo it (from bin) for something like a month. I do have it set to back up everything automatically so it's most likely dependent on that- but give it a try anyway.

Ya I did, I stupidly selected the option from from gallery and phone when I was deleting the pics. I am so annoyed that I did it and that he is going to get away with it. He is a bully.

How long ago was it - are they not still in the bin folder - I've deleted stuff by mistake and recovered it a good few times from there.

Not sure if you can but is it possible to use recovery software to retrieve info from your phone when its connected to your computer?
I used easeus I think its called (recovery software) to recover pictures from a faulty micro sd card before, I know it's different but I imagine whatsapp saved the images on your phone somewhere before deleting. Is it possible to connect the phone to a computer as a recognised drive that this or other data recovery software can use? Btw the software can be "downloaded" for free... I believe the trial version for free will show you what it has recovered but you can't open them without buying licence... Someone more tech savvy may be able to offer more advice on the above.

Here is a link that might help: http://www.easeus.com/tutorial/mobisaver-android-free-user-guide.html

Wow. I hope you can nail the guy, good luck with this.

A suggestion - install Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva) on a PC, connect your phone as a USB storage device, and see if it can pick out the images before they are overwritten in memory.

However, it seems to me that this is a very serious issue, and if possible you should find a tech-savvy person and sit down with them as they recover the image. If you end up having to quit your job because of this jerk, it could cost you tens of thousands in compensation not having the image...

Go to his message in whatsapp where he sent the pics then click the top right hand side and you should get an option that says view all media, pics should be in there!

Maybe ask in the legal forum, but I think its illegal in Ireland to send obscene messages. If it is i'm sure the Gardai may be able to help you.

Yeah I've been having weird times with Whatsapp recently, I do have a pretty old smart phone though a Galaxy S 2 or something like that, but have been taking photos recently on it and when I went to gallery and clicked on photo it doesn't give you the send to whatsapp option, so tried to copy photo but it wouldn't paste from clipboard. Eventually I got around it by emailing it to myself and getting the whatsapp option through there. I think I might need to tick something, is it a third party app or something I have to tick. I also found taking photos through whatsapp I can't find these photos in the gallery, odd stuff.

LLLOOOONNNG day. I told him I wanted to work on the project solo and presented to my boss how my idea and view of the project would work better as a solo job and how it would look good for him if he let a woman run such a big project and he agreed. He was proud of my imitative and the partner and told him this particular project was not, going to be run by me alone. :D:D

Ive worked to hard to get to where I am to let some sexist pig stop me. I didn't have to tell my boss about what happened but took another angle and showed him how much better it would be if i did on my own. I was ****ting it and thinking he'd tell me to feck off cos Im a newbie but he was thrilled and told me admired my ballsiness before apologizing for using the phrase :D

You have to chose 'delete chat' not 'clear chat'. Come back out of the individual chat to the page where all your chats are together in list form. Just press and hold on the persons chat who you want to delete and it will give you the option then.

Sure just send him a text late one night

"Hey....... I know it's late but I've been looking at and thinking a lot about those photos you sent me last week....I'd love to see one 'ready for action'... if you know what I mean. :-) "

He'll send you fresh ones. Problem sorted
