    Hi All,

Firstly what a great forum, really enjoying reading the posts and I've only seen good and helpful posts not like some of the forums on here unfortunately.

Anyways I'm a newbie to vaping and I already LOVE it. Haven't had a craving for a cigarette and have even dropped down to 6mg which I find is the perfect match for me.

Anyways, I have been sold 2 kimsun devices, which I have to say work really well. However I have seen some very bad reviews about this company and was wondering if anyone else has/had one and if they could shed some light on them.

I've spent over €100 on two devices and I'm a bit concerned with some of the reviews I've been seeing regarding safety of the device.

In addition I bought these devices from a store and in hindsight I feel that the girl in the store was really pushing them. I initially wanted a eGo AIO and when I mentioned it she flat out recommended these.

Never heard of them, but looking at the manufacturers own website, it is distinctly lacking in detail.

    Could well be junk.

Someone else might be along that knows more about them.

But also, they have you off the fags, so there is that too!!! Use whatever works

Not heard of them, but a quick look up tells me they are not TC devices, which the company claim them to be. And the use nickel coils .... which is worrying. I would take it back to the store and tell them you looked it up, and it's a dodgy device, and demand my money back or exchange for something else.

    Is it this one here?

Yes and this is partly my concern. Very little about them online and anything I've seen is pretty negative. Maybe a storm in a teacup but the titanium coils + temp control device have me a little(just a little) concerned.

I'm probably showing my newbie colors and as I said I do like the two devices.

And as you said they have me off the fags

I've contacted them and will probably take a trip to the store tomorrow.

It's not the wolf, it's the mini and TC40W. the box says titanium coils but have heard they can say that but still be nickel

If the coils with it are nickel, and it doesn't have proper temperature control it really has the potential to be dangerous.

Do the coils have nickel, ni200 or a blue band on them?

If the above is true, I would be seething!!

And if you go back and they don't know what you are talking about, they shouldn't be selling it in the first place.

I hate to say it, but don't use it if you only have titanium or nickel coils for it, they should never be used on non TC devices. DO you have another tank? or any regular kanthal coils? I'd definitely take it back, you have every right to. Get the AIO that you wanted. They shouldn't have swayed you toward something else, sounds like they just want rid of them

Can I ask why or could you point me to a site that explains why?

Thanks all for your very helpful posts. Will be going in tomorrow and getting an AIO.

No they don't have any of those. At the same time it has no indicator as to what they are. Just on the leaflet.

The guy in the video I posted above explains it. Basically, in lay man's terms, Ti and Ni wire are not meant to be heated above certain temps, or they give off potentially toxic fumes. TC modes prevent them from over heating, and keep them in the safe zone pretty much. In regular power/wattage mode they will continue to heat well beyond safe-for-vaping levels. Stainless steel on the other hand is perfectly fine in any mode. It can be vaped on in normal power modes, which is why I prefer it to any of the others.

I'm not really up on the chemistry of it as you can tell :D but that's how I see it

Yeah as above, using nickel without temp control is potentially dangerous.

We don't know what the coils are made of to be honest. You need an answer to that before anything else. I would be surprised if the coils were nickel or titanium, but its hard to be sure if their website won't even say.

Materials for the coils include, kanthal (most common, won't work with temp control), nickel (needs TC), titanium (needs TC), nichrome (not sure, don't think needs TC), stainless steel (works in both, many types of it though, all slightly different eg. 316, 316l,317 and more).

They are likely a high margin product for the place that sold them to you. An AIO likely isn't, unless they are charging 30e+.

Have you opened up both of them?

Does it have a built in battery? Or can you take it out?

In the vid I posted the guy shows that the coils are nickel, at least for the set he was showing from the same company. There was a TC sticker on the box, claiming the device had temp control, but it clearly doesn't, It only has power mode. He put the coils through some testing and shows that the device runs them up to 1000 degrees F

Here's the vid again: I forgot to youtube tag it first time

They have a range of products/devices though, which one does the OP have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Thecageyone

Reckon if they claim this one to be TC, they'll claim that across their range. But OP didn't say which model, that's true. But the fact they do it once, is enough for me not to trust them

Its the STL Mini and the TC40W.

And yes the coils are definitely Titanium. Battery is built in in BOTH devices.

Just looked them up, neither of them do TC, they are misleading people.

Sorry to be a pain but can you give me a link as I'm meeting the owner of the store tomorrow and I want to be prepared.

Thanks so much guys. for now I'm back on the rollies

Actually just double checked and it was the 50w I was looking at, can't find specific info on the TC40w, only from Kimsun themselves, which I wouldn't believe! If you go through the menu, is there settings for TC? As in, is there an Ni and Ti mode? and can you set the temperature in those modes? if so, then it has TC, and that one might be ok. But the pen one, definitely doesn't have TC, it's just not possible for a mod with no screen to effectively run TC modes, how would you change the settings?

The TC40W HAS a setting for Temp Control, but is this reliable seeing as other products were advertised as TC and aren't?

I'd have to actually see the menu for it, it's hard to find info on it, nobody seems to have reviewed that one. If it has TC modes, then you could use the titanium and nickel coils, but tbh, whoever served you in the shop should have shown you how to set it up. And I wouldn't like the fact they don't give you any kanthal coils with it. That's pretty much forcing you to use TC mode, which I wouldn't recommend for new vapers. The pen style one definitely shouldn't be used with anything but a standard kanthal coil. It's ridiculous if all that came with that was titanium? That's reason enough to have them take that one back. I'd go in and say I'm a new vaper, I had no clue what I was buying, wasn't shown how to set up the device or anything, and want to exchange it for something more straight forward. If you still have the receipt, they have no reason not to.

The TC40W does have a TC function, but it only allows you adjust the temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. There is no option to set it to the correct metal type.

Just an FYI. I decided to keep the TC40W, didn't even go into shop as I really like the device. I've tried a few others and maybe because it's the first one I have but it's just a great vape.

Also I've mentioned the Ti coils(definitely Ti) to another shop and he said there should be no problem with it. so happy enough with that.

As for the other device the STL Mini, I lost the receipt. AND I don't like that one. Anyways it wasn't too expensive so I'll live and learn.

    thanks all for your help.

So long as you have a decent and safe vape that you enjoy, and you're off the fags, that's what matters :)

Don't worry, you'll go through dozens of devices in time
