    Hi folks,

New Saorview DIY installation. Appreciate any help.

Have put the aerial in the attic. Coax cable directly into a brand new LG TV.

    It finds:

RTE One, RTE One+1, RTE Jnr and UTV Ireland. These are perfect, no freezing picture. No issues.

    Missing RTE 2, TV3, 3e etc.

What could the issue be? Poor signal strength? Should I get the ladder out and stick the aerial on the chimney?

Poor signal for one of the multiplexes. You could try adjusting the aerial in the attic to get an optimum signal for both muxes otherwise it'll have to go outside.

Cheers man - think i'll stick it outside altogether. Save me hassle down the road.

Mounted on chimney - ran cable to 8-way splitter in the attic.

Perfect Saorview all across the house.

    Thanks!!! :)

Is it feeding 8 receivers without amplification? Good strong signal.

    Great to get the feedback.

    Four receivers (for now :-) ) !

    Thanks again.

No. of receivers is irrelevant, as each port of your 8-way splitter is getting 1/8 of the signal*, regardless of there being anything connected to the others.

*not taking into account losses due to inefficiencies in the splitter components.

I'm flying so. No issues at all with all four TVs on same / different channels.

I am having the exact same problem in my mother's house, RTE One, RTE One+1, RTE Jnr and UTV Ireland are perfect but all the others have disappeared since mid July. There are Mux 2 as far as I can gather from online research, but I don't fully understand what this means. Aerial is in attic and has been since start of saorview service with no problems until this past month or so. Everything was perfect up until then. Could it be distant tree growth and foliage? There are no trees close by. There are two saorview boxes in the house, same problem with both boxes. Has something happened to the transmitter recently? How would I find out? Is there a site giving transmitter info? Transmitter is located at or near Balyhallion, Clonmany Co. Donegal.

Clonmany is a low-powered transmitter (20 watts), probably not an ideal candidate for attic reception if you're any distance away.

Are the boxes in question still tuned to the Clonmany frequencies: channel 53 (730 MHz) for mux. 1 (RTE2, TV3, TG4), & channel 49 (698 MHz) for mux. 2 (RTE1, UTV Ireland).

Didn't know where to post this so apoliges. Just read on Broadband TV News website that A+E Networks are launching a channel called Blaze free to air in the UK and Ireland on the 20th September. I wonde didt hey mean Saorview in Ireland . Most likely clutching at straws here. Sky will be managing the sales side of things.

Looks like a mis print on the website.Blaze will be available free to air in ireland through the Sky digital Platform according to a51 digital website. No epg number has been allocated ywt. No mention of Saorview. As I said in my previous post clutching at straws. We live in hope.

another issue might be aerial polarisation. I have often seen shiny new horizontal polarised aerials aimed at a vertical polarised transmitter! (and Clonmany is listed as vertical)

Hi Thurston and Antenna, thanks for replies and info. Yes the TV is tuned into channels 53 and 49 from Clonmany, there are no other transmitter possibilities anyway due to mountains, hills etc. The aerial is also vertical. I have since heard from 6 other neighbours who have been having the same problem since mid-July and also 2 people who have it in other towns who are getting their signal from other transmitters. The signal strength has obviously gone down, as all channels were being received until then. I phoned RTE NL and they told me that there has been no decrease in signal strength in Clonmany and that they cannot detect any problem.

Recent development: this week all the channels on mux 2 has also been unwatchable since last Sunday. There have even been complaints to a phone-in show on Highland Radio last week from disgruntled viewers who could not watch The Rose of Tralee!!!

So obviously something is going on ... but what? And how to resolve it?

RTE NL told me to buy a 4G filter as they felt that there could be interfernce from a Vodafone mast in the vicinity. Trouble is, I know someone who lives within 1km of the said mast and is having no problems ....

This someone's aerial might not be picking up so much interference, might be pointing away from the phone mast, or screened from it.

TBH, not much comment one can offer, based on anecdotal evidence, receiving aerial installs of who knows what quality etc.

Filter suggestion would be worth a try, especially if the 2RN person you spoke to was someone with actual engineering knowledge.

Do you have an amplifier installed? That combined with a wideband aerial can cause problems from a nearby 4g mast.
