How Do You Spread Bales Along A Feed Barrier?

Going to concrete out an old hayshed to put cattle in for winter. Would like to put in feed barriers either end, but father thinks it'd be more work re. putting out bales and would prefer to stick with current setup of ring feeder in the middle of the shed.

Is there an easier way of spreading a bale rather than just rolling it along. Ringfeeder would be awkward because we have no loader

You can get a ring feeder that has a side that you can swing open, like on a hinge.
I feed in ordinary ring feeders in the yard and never have to fork silage. You can't have any straw around it though as the dung needs to be easily scraped back to swing the one side of the feeder open.

Stand the bale on its end, let the cattle eat about half way and then push in the rest with the tractor

we find it handier here to lay them on there flat and then push them in

Agree If you are going to be spreading the bales for them the cattle will have nothing to do.
They will spread the bales themselves once they can reach them.
Let the cattle and tractor earn their keep and save your back.

They are wasting a bit alright, which is annoying. The way we have it at the moment is the shed is open, cattle can walk out into the fields. I want to lock them in, stop them ploughing up the place
