Hi guys not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars I can put diesel in and oil that's about it but anyway

The battery light is on in my 01 2.0 diesel mondeo has been for couple of weeks I stopped at a nearby garage when it came on the guy tested my battery and alternator at the time he said both are fine but the belt needed changing

So took it home brought to a local machanic belt changed along with a service and few other jobs (nct coming up) grand
Drive out of garage light comes on again mechanic again tests battery alternator etc he says all are perfect don't have figures for you but car is driving perfect not down on power or anything actually better since service but light is on il be dropping it back in next week for another look but any ideas from the knowledgeable people here mechanic reckon still might be alternator might need changeing??

I'd say change mechanic instead of alternator.

You say your mechanic tested alternator and says it's perfect and then says it might need changing. It wouldn't make sense to me.

Also I don't know how your mechanic thought changing belt might help.
If belt was loose enough to cause battery light to come on, you'd hear that.

Either there's some loose connection, or indeed your alternator is broken, or everything is fine, just the sensor responsible for battery light is broken.

Hi chino honestly it made no sense to me about the alternator either half the reason I posted here was the very first guy said it was the belt slipping to be fair the belt that came off it was in an auful state was half of the new one so I said fair enough
but as I said two mechanics have said alternator and battery are giving correct readings

second mechanic wants me to bring it back Monday to "take a better look at alternator" maybe by that he means the connects and sensors you mentioned as unfortunately it was 18.30 yesterday I was picking it up and he was headed home il drop it in Monday to him see what he says if not as you say il try somebody else before replacing anything

And as I said car starting and driving fine no issues with power or anything so I'm hoping it's just a sensor or a connection

I'd try cleaning the connections and terminals for the battery, lots of gunk can build up on those.

My battery light has been on for over 2 years. It's a ford aswell. Battery and alternator tested fine with a multimeter.
Have cleaned most connections and earths.

If you want to get it sorted go to an auto electrician
